Smithfield Farmland, a wholly owned subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, has an opening for a Corporate Project Engineer. This position will manage projects at our Crete and Lincoln, NE locations and will report to the Director of Engineering in Smithfield. We are looking for a motivated, self-starting, solutions-oriented individual to provide Project Engineering and CADD support on a wide variety of projects within our 11 facilities.
Development and management of capital projects including equipment and facility upgrades, capacity expansions and distribution expansions.
Preparation of Capital Appropriation Requests to include development of project scope, justification, detailed cost estimate and project savings calculations.
Obtain and evaluate proposals for capital equipment purchases and mechanical, electrical and civil work.
Coordinate and direct installation of equipment and services with suppliers, contractors, production and maintenance personnel and USDA officials.
Travel to company owned facilities to support capital projects and corporate engineering initiatives.
Update and produce drawings of equipment layouts, process flows, building structure and utilities based on observation and interpretation of engineering plans.
Prepare designs and layout drawings to present alternative scenarios. Recommend design changes, analyzing and presenting the pros and cons of the changes on the project
Manage all documentation and drawing files.
Manage CADD equipment and procedures for corporate office and production plants.
Perform other duties as assigned.
1. 5 plus years experience in a manufacturing environment. Previous experience in the meat and food industry a plus.
2. Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD required, working knowledge of Word and Excel. Knowledge of SAP a plus.
3. Ability to manage projects from conception to turn key.
4. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently.
5. Knowledge and/or experience with AMI sanitary design standards.
6. Ability to handle multiple duties and projects simultaneously.
7. Strong team and personal leadership skills.
8. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization using written and verbal presentation skills.
9. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, refrigeration, hydraulic, and boiler systems a plus.
10. Knowledge of relevant USDA, OSHA and EPA regulations.
11. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. in Engineering or A.S. in related field (Engineering Technology or CADD preferred) and equivalent work / education experience.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
