Job Description
The Jackson Laboratory has a full time opening for a Programmer Analyst position. The Programmer Analyst's role is to define, analyze, design, develop, test, and maintain new software applications in support of the achievement of business requirements. The Analyst will also elicit, document, and modify software requirements and specifications throughout the software system life cycle. The Programmer Analyst is responsible for analyzing and amending software errors in a timely and accurate fashion and for providing status reports where required.
JOB
Responsibilities:
Independently or with other analysts and developers, conceptualize and develop new software programs and applications according to specifications. Recommend and perform software improvements and upgrades.
Assist in requirements, business process definition and design sessions with decision makers, systems owners and end users in defining new systems for the purpose of enhancing business processes, operations, and information process flow.
Create system design proposals and systems models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and quality assurance staff.
Perform unit testing of software developed prior to release to software quality assurance
Develop and maintain user manuals and guidelines. Train end users to operate new or modified programs.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in the field of computer science, information systems, or software engineering preferred.
Minimum of three years of work experience.
Solid experience developing business solutions on one or more enterprise class application platforms.
Proven experience eliciting and documenting business and technical requirements, process models/maps, and data models; utilizing industry standard methodologies and tools.
Proficiency in at least two programming languages, one of which must be object oriented, and a detailed understanding of the associated development best practices and coding methodologies.
Experience with relational database management systems, including Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle database management systems.
Ability to work and provide deliverables within an established software development life cycle or application life cycle.
Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with non-technical staff and with members of interdisciplinary teams.
Self-motivated and directed with the ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail. Proven experience in software trouble-shooting. Greater level of proficiency in problem solving.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Ability to lead others.
Ability to draw solutions from a wider range of experience. Demonstrated creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles and practices.
