OVERALL FUNCTION
The reporting relationship is split between the Director of Athletics and the Chair of the Health and Human Performance Division. For Athletics, the primary responsibilities are to direct, support and supervise a successful intercollegiate men's soccer program representing assistant coaches and student athletes. The Head Coach is responsible for the men's soccer budget, strategic planning, fields and facilities, policies, compliance, scholarships, promotion and leadership of the team. The Head Coach will also be assigned a teaching load to be determined on the basis of background and experience.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, manage, and successfully coach the sport of men's soccer including practices, games, scheduling, recruiting, equipment management, reporting scores and statistics, and website updating.
Manage and operate within budget parameters, without exception. Submit all receipts and budget reports on time as directed by Director of Athletics.
Ensure strict adherence to all Crossroads League, NAIA, and NCCAA by-laws and regulations.
Ensure adherence with established institutional compliance rules, policies, and procedures as well as ethical standards of behavior.
Ensure satisfactory academic performance of student-athletes.
Ensure the spiritual, physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes.
Responsible for successful coaching, to include maximizing the team's potential/abilities, keeping athletes eligible, supporting the spiritual development of each player, and retaining athletes through graduation.
Supervise and mentor coaching assistants as directed and approved by Director of Athletics.
Assist to propagate a comprehensive public relations program.
Manage the operations of sport camps and/or clinics.
Manage all department fund-raising and booster events in accordance with University, Crossroads League, NAIA and NCCAA expectations, and institutional rules, policies, and procedures.
Learn, understand, and adhere to all NAIA, NCCAA guidelines and maintain up-to-date rosters, squad lists and other information keeping compliance as a first priority.
Coordinate and develop organized schedules and submit weekly countable hours report.
Participate in long-range planning and assessment, attend all departmental training sessions and meetings, read and comply with all departmental policy manuals.
Teaching load is required within the Division of Health and Human Performance and a commitment to excellence in the teaching setting is expected. Additional non-traditional season coaching duties may be required.
Plan and implement daily practice sessions.
Communicate with officials and officials' assignor.
Work closely with Facilities and Grounds workers to insure proper upkeep of athletic facilities.
Qualifications:
Must demonstrate a mature and expressive Christian faith commitment.
Needs to passionately support and articulate the University mission and vision for athletics within the context of that mission.
Must have some level of experience in coaching and teaching (Minimum of 2 years at the college level).that includes recruiting student-athletes, marketing, scheduling, equipment budgeting/management, and facility care.
Must be qualified to obtain a Professional Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Must have an earned Master's Degree.
Need to be gifted in supervising and motivating others.
Must be creative and innovative; discerning and a thorough planner.
Need to be an organizer, communicator and gifted in confrontation.
Must subscribe to the principles and lifestyle of the Wesleyan Church.
COMPENSATION:
Competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Serving in Full-time, 12 month position.
