Primary Function
The Director of Engineering manages and directs corporate engineering for the company. The priorities for this positon include strategic planning, product design, quality assurance and problem resolution. The Director of Engineering must execute product design to meet company objectives, partner with management and develop systems and controls to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Principal Responsibilities
Direct product development tasks in accordance with ISO 13485 and 9001
Identify internal or customer-driven design requirements and generate, engineering solutions.
Lead a multi-disciplinary team, comprised of mechanical, electrical and software engineers.
Direct product development both strategically and tactically.
Participate, as appropriate, in in-vivo, in-vitro studies, surgeries, industry conferences, and other product development related activities.
Develop and directs procedures and methods to ensure quality standards are met and maintained.
Provides engineering expertise in the areas of tooling, prints, specifications, product maintenance, raw materials and vender products throughout the organization.
Manages engineering budget.
Builds, develops and manages engineering team capable of carrying out needed engineering initiatives.
Manage engineering resources, including recruiting, hiring and termination
Support business development and sales
Manage departmental requirements, tools, materials, equipment, etc.
Training, Skills, Knowledge and/or Experience
Demonstrated success in leading product development projects from concept through commercialization.
Demonstrated multi-disciplinary technical leadership.
Success in technical organization development and team management.
Prior experience with medical devise development preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency in strategic planning, capital and departmental budgets.
Basic knowledge of relevant manufacturing processed and materials
Understand of ISO 13485, IEC 60601 and FDA medical device regulations.
Experience with small/micro design, tight tolerances.
Basic knowledge of imaging technologies and precision manufacturing is preferred.
Education Requirement
Bachelor's Degree in mechanical or other related engineering disciplines and 10 years relevant design experience or advanced degree in mechanical or other related engineering discipline and 5 years relevant design experience.
Supervisory Responsibility
Directly responsible for supervising exempt, professional, or technical employees.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
