Job
Summary:
Performs a variety of clerical, communications and coordinating functions, which ensure and support smooth patient care processes and unit operations. Contributes to ensuring effective and efficient communication with visitors, callers, physicians, staff from other departments and others as appropriate. Meets and greets visitors to the department; determines the purpose of visit and responds or refers to appropriate staff member. Answers and screens incoming phone calls to the department; responds to inquiries or refers to appropriate staff member. Pages/locates department staff at the request of physicians and others. Transcribes physician orders, which are verified by the registered nurse, to appropriate patient care documents. Enters orders for laboratory and diagnostic tests via computer; communicates with other departments as necessary to coordinate testing. Ensures that patient charges for laboratory tests and observation are entered via computer on a daily basis. Ensures integrity, completeness and proper organization of medical record, within scope of job description. Supports the smooth functioning of the unit by performing a variety of clerical and coordinating activities as designated by the unit.
Education:High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:Previous LNA and secretarial experience preferred. Basic computer skills, Medical terminology, communication and organizational skills required.
