This position is funded from the Commonwealth's annual operating budget.Duties:
Patrols buildings, grounds, and adjacent areas of Tewksbury Hospital and enforces Hospital policy as well as the rules and regulations of Tewksbury Hospital Campus. Provides custodial supervision of mentally challenged and disruptive clients. Performs job related duties as required.
1. Patrols buildings and grounds of Tewksbury Hospital Campus at regular intervals and guard against trespass, theft, damage to property.
2. Provide custodial supervision of medically ill and mentally challenged clients and escorts them to various appointments within the hospital.
3. Take custody of medically ill and mentally challenged clients from their respective units and deliver them to corrections officers for transport to court, resume custody upon their return.
4. Take custody of medically ill and mentally challenged clients upon their arrival, supervise them through the pre-admission process, and escort them to their assigned unit.
5. Take custody of medically ill and mentally challenged clients who have gone AWA (Absent Without Authorization) from the hospital and provide custodial care and supervision until they are returned to their respective units.
6. Exercise safety and security duties to prevent law violations.
7. Provide escort protection to members of Tewksbury Hospital staff, visitors, student, and patients.
8. Perform safety and security duties at plays, dances, or other Tewksbury Hospital functions.
9. Prepare reports on investigations conducted and noteworthy incidents occurring during tours of duty.
10. Preserves crime scenes and fire sites for examination by experts.
11. Perform searches for missing patients, persons, or goods.
12. Perform inspection of buildings, grounds, fire lanes, and emergency exits for compliance with safety standards to ensure campus security.
13. Enforce campus traffic and safety regulations by directing traffic; assists operators of disabled motor vehicles; issues parking stickers; issues traffic control tickets; and arranges for snow removal/sanding to ensure the orderly flow of traffic and the prevention of accidents.
14. Operate such equipment as two-way radios, computers, printers, fax machines, base stations, and office machines.
15. Maintain written and computerized logs, door reports, activity reports, missing patient reports, and any other department filing/reports systems.
16. Assist Town and State Police Departments when needed.
17. Assists in fire drills, investigations, and accident complaints.
18. Carry out related duties or responsibilities as directed by the Campus Police Chief or Shift Supervisor.
19. Complete daily logs, incident reports, and other forms.
20. Control traffic and parking to ensure traffic/safety regulations.
21. Exercise police powers in the detection and apprehension of law violators.
22. Respond to all crisis situations and help calls in the hospital and outside programs to restore order.
23. Serve court summons to clients/staff.
24. Transport clients and staff on and off grounds to various locations as required.
25. Perform job-related duties for safety and security as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum Entrance Requirements: None.
Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Appointee must be eligible for appointment as a special police officer under Chapter 22C, Section 60 (DPH) and Section 59 (DMH & DMR) of the Massachusetts General Laws.

High School Diploma/General Educational Development (GED) Certificate
Valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operators License
CPR & First Responder Certified
Eligible for appointment as a Special Police Officer under M.G.L. Chapter 22c, Section 60 (DPH) and Section 59 (DMH & DMR)
Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook)
Comments:
Schedule: 40 hours/week, 3rd/night shift, Sunday/Monday Off.
All employees will be paid on a bi-weekly basis and must have direct deposit.

As applicable, preference for this position will be given to those candidates who are eligible for Civil Service/Con Test Reinstatement/Reemployment or to those candidates who have passed the civil service examination for this job title, and who respond to the job certification that was recently issued for this location and/or to employees laid off or bumped from this title who are eligible for recall, and in accordance with Article 14 or applicable Collective Bargaining requirements.
