The Information Technology and Web Science Program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has two positions to be filled at either the Lecturer or Professor of Practice level. These will be one (1) year appointments, with the possibility of renewal, based on funding and performance.
Candidates must minimally possess a Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent, in Information Technology (IT) or a closely related of study, along with prior successful teaching experience at the university level and at least two years of directly relevant work experience beyond their graduation. Candidates with less than a Ph.D. may be considered with a Bachelors of Science degree (or foreign degree equivalent) in a relevant field plus at least 10 years of professional and/or management experience in an IT field that includes significant contributions and/ or impact. Evidence of teaching effectiveness may include student evaluations, syllabi, and/or sample assignments.
Candidates at the Professor of Practice level must already have established themselves in their field and must demonstrate: an excellent record in teaching; unique professional experience; distinguished research, and/or have performed at an Executive or Officer level; and have made a significant impact within a subject matter or discipline in a field important to Rensselaer's research and academic programs; and have participated in IT/CS curriculum development.
We are seeking applicants from all areas of Information Technology/ Applied Computer Science with preference given to candidates with research and relevant work experience/ specialty in one or more of the following fields:
Data science, data analytics, visual analytics
Informatics, and/or information science
Web technologies and/or Web science
The successful candidate(s) will be required to teach a broad spectrum of advanced graduate information technology/ applied computer science courses to meet immediate needs, e.g. topics in the advanced professional graduate core and concentrations as well as possible courses in the candidate's area of specialty, and be able to advise students in their plans of study and independent study courses.
These positions are primarily based at the Rensselaer Graduate Center at Hartford, in Hartford CT but also include teaching and advising time on the Rensselaer Troy Campus, in Troy NY. Due to the nature of the advanced professional program, classes may be scheduled in the evenings and for some residential components, occasional weekend scheduling may be required.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
