Position: The Department of Speech and Hearing Science (shs.illinois.edu) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for an academic nine-month, tenure-track faculty position with expertise in communication, swallowing or hearing disorders related to head and neck/esophageal cancer. The position is available at open rank (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) and begins August 16, 2015.
Description: The department seeks outstanding candidates with a strong research record in communication impairment and rehabilitation in persons with head and neck/esophageal cancer, including but not limited to voice and communication rehabilitation after total or partial laryngectomy, coordination of respiration and swallowing, ototoxicity related to cancer treatment, and/or dysphagia and communication treatment outcomes. The position offers opportunities to engage in basic, clinical, and translational research through interdisciplinary on-campus programs and institutes, including the Cancer Community at Illinois (cancer.illinois.edu/), the Center for Health, Aging, and Disability, the Neuroscience Program, the Chez Family Foundation Center for Wounded Veterans in Higher Education, and the newly-formed Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Initiative. Additionally, clinical appointment and responsibilities may be jointly offered through the Carle Cancer Center ().
Qualifications: Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline; clinical certification is preferred. Preference will be given to clinician-scientists with a translational research focus. Candidates for appointment at the level of assistant professor must demonstrate the potential to develop a funded research program, and those eligible for appointment at higher ranks must have a well-developed research program and a history of funded research.
Responsibilities: Conduct and publish research in chosen area of expertise as it relates to communication and/or swallowing disorders in persons with head and neck/esophageal cancer; seek external funding in support of research endeavors; teach undergraduate and graduate courses; advise and direct student theses and dissertations; engage in professional and public service activities; and serve on department, college, and university committees. Joint appointment and clinical responsibilities may also be offered through the Carle Cancer Center.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
