The Towson University Police Department is currently accepting qualified applicants for a University Police Officer II position to perform a broad range of law enforcement duties including enforcing State laws and University regulations, assisting in training subordinate personnel, and functioning as an OIC of special events if needed.
Responsibilities
Enforces the laws of the State of Maryland, detains suspicious vehicles and persons, and apprehends and arrests violators when probable cause exists; serves warrants and summonses; conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations by interviewing and obtaining statements of victims, witnesses, suspects and confidential informants, and by collecting, preserving and processing evidence; performs searches, conducts surveillance and participates in raids or search parties; performs verbal reports and prepares detailed written reports on a variety of incidents including criminal offenses, traffic accidents, personal injuries and missing persons; patrols designated areas of the campus in a motor vehicle and on foot to maintain a visible presence; responds to calls for service, evaluates the situation and determines the appropriate course of action; administers emergency medical aid as a certified First Responder; and enforces University parking regulations and all provisions of the Maryland Vehicle law. This position is classified as Essential personnel and candidates will be required to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and certification as a sworn Police Officer recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commission within the last three years. One year experience as a sworn Police Officer preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license with no more than 5 points.
A Criminal Background Investigation, pre-employment physical, polygraph and psychological evaluation are required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
Salary
$42,182 annually with full University benefits that include annual leave, holidays, personal and sick days; tuition remission; and excellent health, life, and retirement plans. Applicants with TU or USM service may receive salary credit. The position is contingent on funds being available at time of hire.
Signing Bonus: An additional $2,000 signing bonus is available for this position.
