The Integrated Computational Environments Team in the Computer Science Research Group (CSR) in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division, at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to perform work in the field of scientific software engineering.

Major Duties/
Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will contribute to the development of an integrated environment for modeling and simulation (the Eclipse Integrated Computational Environment) that covers many areas of computational science, including applications in batteries, nuclear reactors and fuels, nuclear fusion, and other clean energy modeling and simulation efforts.

The successful applicant will simultaneously contribute to software development activities and original research. Publications and presentations are expected.

Minimum Qualifications Required
A PhD in computer science, software engineering or closely related field is required.
A proven publication track record in research related to the group is also required.
A strong background in object-oriented programming, preferably Java.
Incumbents will have excellent communication and writing skills, and the ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic group environment.
Excellent teamwork abilities are required as the team meets daily, practices Continuous Integration, collaborates on the source code and has regular deadlines.
The ability to submit a code sample in an object-oriented language, preferably Java and excluding Fortran 2003.
Experience using the Eclipse Integrated Development Environment and other modern Java development tools.


Preferred
Qualifications:
Experience in one of the following application areas is highly desirable; computational science, including applications in batteries, nuclear reactors and fuels, and other clean energy modeling and simulation efforts. General application development work in another field may also be considered.

Experience in high-performance computing would be beneficial.
Experience with test- and model-driven development methods.

Additional Information: Applicants cannot have received their PhD more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. This position is a temporary, full-time assignment with an initial appointment not to exceed 24 months. Certain exceptions may be considered.






Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
