The Department of Interior Recent Graduates Program affords developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. The program lasts for 1 year (unless the training requirements of the position warrant a longer and more structured training program). Recent graduates who successfully complete the program and meet all applicable program requirements may be eligible for conversion to a term or permanent job in the civil service. (Eligibility for conversion is not guaranteed.).

Recent Graduate Program Requirements:
To be eligible, applicants must have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate degree, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying accredited educational institution (i.e., college/university).
Veterans who are unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree, due to military service obligation, have as much as six years after degree completion to apply.
This is a full-time appointment in the excepted service and filled at the GS-05 level. Theemployee in this position serves as a permanent, full-time GS-0482-05 Fish Biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 6, ARD-Fisheries, Vernal Fisheries Office, located in Vernal, Utah.
To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must have:
Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.
Demonstrated successful job performance.
Met the qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted.

Becomes familiar with priority issues associated with recovery of Colorado River endangered fishes
Assists with conducting scientific and management investigations and helps with data and report preparation
Performs a wide variety of fish sampling and field data collection techniques on large rivers including raft electro-fishing, radio-telemetry, non-lethal tissue sampling, fish tagging, seining, and operating motorized watercraft and rafts in swift currents
Assists in oral presentations of research results and findings at meetings. workshops, and conferences
Assists with instream flow projects for riverine flow regimes necessary for recovery of endangered fish
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
A. Successful completion of a full 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or higher degree in biological science that included at least 6 semester hours in the aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; at least 12 semester hours in animal sciences, in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields. Note: If courses in aquatic and animal sciences are not clearly identified on transcripts and knowledge of such subjects was in other coursework, include a description of such courses, to include syllabus as provided in official college catalog.

B. Combination of education from an accredited college or university and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e. at least 30 semester hours), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Note: If courses in aquatic and animal sciences are not clearly identified on transcripts and knowledge of such subjects was in other coursework, include a description of such courses, to include syllabus as provided in official college catalog.
This position requires completion of the specific course of study as reflected above. In addition to the Basic Education requirement, the following competencies are required:

Applications are evaluated and rated under Category Rating and Selection procedures. Category rating combines the applicant's total experience and/or education/training into a single category. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
