There are multiple positionslocated in the Engineering and Planning Department at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled as aMechanical Engineer (0830), Electrical Engineer (0850), Electronics Engineer (0855), and Naval Architect (0871).
You must be a US Citizen. Must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal & Regulatory Guidance. Suitable for Federal employment as determined by background investigation. Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period. You must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
There are multiple positions as a Mechanical Engineer (0830), Electrical Engineer (0850), Electronics Engineer (0855), and Naval Architect (0871) located in the Engineering and Planning Department at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Incumbent performs professional engineering/architectural duties related to the work of the division. Providing engineering/technical support, planning support, operations (project) support, methods and standards support, equipment and facilities support, quality assurance support, safety/environmental support, and administrative support as assigned.
Applicants must meet the following Basic Education Requirement of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual.
A. Successful completion of a full four year course of study in professional engineering (must be completed by entrance on duty). To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (beyond first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics. OR B. Combination of education and experience- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:1._Professional registration_- current registration as a professional engineer by any State in the United States, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.2._Written test_- Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration, which is administered by the Board of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Applicants who have passed the EIT examination and have completed all the requirements for either (a) a bachelor's degree in engineering technology (BET) from an accredited college or university that included 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, or (b) a BET from a program accredited by the (ABET) may be rated eligible for certain engineering positions at GS-5. Eligibility is limited to positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of the engineering technology program. Because of the diversity in kind and quality of BET programs, graduates of other BET programs are required to complete at least 1 year of additional education or highly technical work experience required for professional engineering competence. The adequacy of this background must be demonstrated by passing the EIT examination.3._Specified academic courses_-successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described in A. above. _4. Related curriculum_-Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided you have had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior profession engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
_GS-05:_ Successfully completed, or will complete by entrance on duty, a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a professional engineering degree OR I have completed a combination of education and experience as described above.
_GS-07:_ In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, applicants must haveat least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) in Federal service or equivalent public or private sector performing engineering calculations, preparing correspondence and technical reports, and conducting engineering research OR Education may substitute experience as follows: One year (or at least 18 semester hours) of graduate level education that provided you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform professional engineering work (must complete be EOD) OR Successful completion of a 5-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering (must complete by EOD) OR An equivalent combination of specialized experience and education described above OR
SUPERIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: Superior Academic Achievement is based on (1) class standing; (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.
1. Class standing - applicants must be in the upper third of graduating class in the college or university attending based on courses completed .
2. Grade-point average (G.P.A) - applicants must have a grade-point average of:
a. 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (B or better) as recorded on official transcript or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of my curriculum, or
b. Based on grade-point average of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (B+ or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
3. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society as listed by the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision.

Work is divided between the office and on-board ships. The selectee is exposed to conditions during various stages of overhaul.
Frequent investigations of shipboard equipment and conditions require a considerable amount of crawling, walking, climbing, and bending. The work requires a mix of physical and mental exertion. In order to inspect/investigate equipment, antennas, and spaces the employee is required to assume awkward positions due to space limitations on submarines and to be subjected to relatively physically demanding conditions of shipboard environments.
Work is in the office, the waterfront and at sea. Waterfront work requires regular shipboard visits which exposes the engineer to discomforts such as excessive heat, high antenna platforms, dirty equipment and machinery spaces and high noise levels. Sea trial conditions are hot, noisy, dirty, generally nauseous, sleepless and require long hours.
The selectee may be assigned to work areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to: fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc. To ensure employee safety and health, the Shipyard maintains personnel protection programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations.
As part of the medical surveillance programs, the selectee may be required to take medical examinations to assess his or her medical qualification for duty involving work with these agents.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
