About the Position:
Position is located at Tripler Army Medical Center within the Preventive Medicine Department, Industrial Hygiene Section.

Incumbent must possess or obtain and maintain Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Reporting System (DOEHRS-IH) Certification within six months of hire date.

As an Industrial Hygienist, you will perform duties such as:
Conducting industrial hygiene investigations and evaluations which may include hazards resulting from inhalation, ingestion, or skin absorption of chemicals; heat and pressure extremes; ionizing and non-ionizing radiation; noise and vibration; and ergonomics.
Meeting and dealing with workers, supervisors, managers, commanders, and health and health-related professionals in the accomplishment of assignments.
Preparing written technical reports of industrial hygiene survey findings, recommendations, and corrective actions required.
Assisting with coordination of subject results and recommendations with organizational operating officials, supervisors, managers, medical personnel, safety personnel, and others involved with the environmental aspects of the organization surveyed.
Planning, measuring, and quantitating the presence of toxic particulates, gases, and vapors in the work environment.
Designing, calibrating, and evaluating sampling techniques and instruments used in work site evaluations.

Degree: industrial hygiene; or a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
OR

Combination of Experience and Education: at least 12 semester hours of course work in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours as specified in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Evaluation of Education: All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university.
Evaluation of
Experience: Qualifying experience may have been obtained in field, laboratory, engineering, or other environment if the work provided a means of obtaining a professional knowledge of the theory and application of the principles of industrial hygiene and closely related sciences such as physics and engineering controls. Such work must have involved experience in all of the following areas: the acquisition of quantitative and qualitative data, and the measurement of exposures for a variety of chemical, physical, and biological stresses; the analysis of the data acquired and the prediction of probable effects of exposures on the health and well-being of workers; and the selection and recommendation of appropriate controls, including management, medical, engineering, education or training, and personal protective equipment.

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: performing on-site industrial hygiene investigations or surveys; identifying and evaluating personal exposure hazards in the workplace; conducting indoor air quality surveys to determine hazardous conditions and determining the root cause; assessing workplace hazards using industrial hygiene testing and sampling; and evaluating and recommending controls of industrial hygiene problems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:

Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-11: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, that is directly related to the work of the position.

Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-11: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 36 hours (total semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
