This Permits Assistant, ZS-0303-03, position is with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Maine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Greater Atlantic Region located in Gloucester, MA. This position reviews and processes fishing vessel permit-related documents submitted by fishing entities and assists in the management of the daily work flow of the Analysis & Program Support Division.

As a Permits Assistant with the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service, Greater Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office, duties will include, but are not limited to:
Reviewing applications for completeness based on regulations and procedures;
Processing applications using in-house software;
Completing application processing within required time periods;
Providing customer support for applications, forms, and on-line services; and,
Preparing and processing fishing allocation transfer applications and other applicable forms and documents within the department.
Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications based on _ONE_ of the following: A. Have a bachelor's degree or higher degree in any field from an accredited school. -OR- B. Have at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 in the Federal Service. This experience includes most of the following: performing, under immediate or general supervision, moderately difficult and responsible office work carrying out application processing procedures; using knowledge of fisheries-related subject-matter (e.g., fishing vessel construction, fish species identification, commercial fishing equipment, etc.); performing work involving a moderate amount of training(e.g., program policies; application of rules; etc.) and minor supervisory assignments; and performing routine office work requiring little assistance with recurring assignments. -OR- C. Possess a combination of education as described in A and specialized experience as described in B that, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement. (NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable in this calculation. For example, one full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.)
