Sr. Buyer

Under the direction of the Materials Manager, the Senior Buyer obtains purchased components from suppliers at the lowest cost while considering quality, reliability of source, and urgency of need. Also responsible for driving continuous improvement in supply chain performance, while ensuring continuity of supply, consistency of quality and competitive pricing. Role requires proper maintenance of necessary records and files for efficient operation.
Accountabilities
Supports Operations by ensuring material availability to meet the production schedule.
Assists in the negotiation of supplier contracts or service arrangements.
Evaluates current suppliers ability to support continued growth in operations, recommending courses of action to mitigate risk.
Develops contingency plans to prevent disruptions in operations.
Monitors vendor performance (quality, cost, delivery).
Locates new sources of supply when necessary.
Identifies cost savings opportunities to continually reduce overall material cost.
Serves as liaison between Quality Department and suppliers.
Position Requirements
Bachelor's degree - Business or Engineering or equivalent experience
Ability to interpret drawing and technical specifications.
Must be a good communicator (verbal and written) and able to integrate with and work within a team environment.
High degree of initiative and ownership, attention to detail, and the discipline to follow through on assigned tasks.
Strong organizational, negotiation, and analytical problem solving skills.
Ability to look at the bigger picture and trouble-shoot process flow issues.
Must be adaptable and capable of managing several priorities effectively.
Five to ten years of experience in negotiations, formulating contracts, locating sources of supply, and supporting manufacturing supply chain.
ERP/MRP expertise preferred.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and tools preferred.
Experience in a discrete and/or job shop manufacturing environment preferred.
Percentage of Approximate Travel Required
15% (some international travel)
