Position Overview
The Custom Reports Programmer is responsible for analyzing customer report requests and working with the customer to develop custom reports to meet the needs of Paylocity's payroll and HR system users. Many of the reports will be traditional reports, but others will ultimately be interface files to external systems.
The Custom Reports Programmer should be comfortable talking with external customers, be detail oriented, be comfortable using tools to access data in relational databases, and working in a report development environment.
The most successful Custom Reporting Programmers are ones who truly understand the importance of reports and believe that being a report programmer is a truly valued and respected job in the software development world. The best custom reports programmers also make the effort to understand the business reasoning behind a client's request for a report in order to provide a truly value added service. A successful candidate should be organized, not deterred by a challenge, and should be the type of person who would independently determine and act on the fact for instance that three reports could be combined into one report.
The Custom Reports Programmer should be proficient in or interested in gaining proficiency with relational databases and writing stored procedures for SQL Server. They should also be familiar with report writing concepts through a report development program such as Crystal Reports, MS Access reporting, or preferably SQL Reporting Services.

Required
Experience:
College degree or comparable experience in a database or computer science related field.
Prior experience developing reports in SQL Reporting Services or other reporting services like Crystal Reports preferred
Ability to demonstrate an intermediate knowledge of SQL
Strong knowledge of relational database software
Familiarity with HTML or XML tags
Experience gathering requirements directly from end users is a plus
Experience developing interface files to external systems is a plus
Experience programming or reporting for accounting or payroll functions is a plus
Critical thinking and problem solving skills required
Organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
Decisiveness!! Confident in your decision making ability
Troubleshooting ability
Customer Service Skills: Much of the value of our company is derived by the customer from our ability to produce custom reports and creatively configure the payroll system. As such, the Programmer will be the primary contact point between Paylocity and our customers when we provide these services. It is very important to the companys core strategy that the customer experience is exceptional and that we are able to provide creative and value-added solutions
