This recruitment will be used to fill seasonal appointments. This appointment is not to exceed 1 year, although the position may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. This appointment may also be extended for one additional year, depending on funding and/or work load.
U.S. Citizenship Required Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Incumbent is required to wear NPS uniform. Valid state driver's license is required.
Visitor Use Assistants are uniformed employees of the National Park Service and serve as a front-line representative of the agency. The incumbent provides information and assistance to all visitors, collects and accounts for fees at the entrance stations and/or campgrounds. The incumbent provides information on the park's recreational opportunities and services, distributes maps and other printed information, and provides directions. Employees are responsible for collecting fees and accounting for the funds collected. The incumbent performs opening and closing shift functions, enters information into an electronic Point of Sale system, issues entrance receipts, park passes, and verifies entrance passes. The incumbent completes shift reports to verify money collected and accountable stock sold from all transactions. The employee safeguards funds collected and accountable stock and may perform other duties associated with the fee collection program such as restocking supplies, performing traffic control, minor maintenance, and campground duties.
May have the opportunity to present Interpretive Programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. Extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting and other emergency response duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows, which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone in isolated locations.
AREA INFORMATION: Bryce Canyon National Park,established in 1928,is located in southwestern Utah. The park is famous for its globally unique geology,consisting of a series of horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters carved from the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. In addition to Bryce Canyon's hiking, camping, photography, horseback riding and extraordinary star-gazing, recreation opportunities abound outside the park.Dixie National Forest and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument offer hiking, camping, mountain biking,hunting and fishing opportunities.In addition, driving time to six National Park Service units and three state parks range are within a 3 hour drive. Because of the high elevation (6,000 - 9,000 feet above sea level) summers are relatively mild with daytime temperatures rarely surpassing 90 degrees.Nighttime temperatures are cool (upper 40's to low 50's F).Afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August.Mean daily winter temperatures range from 40 degrees (day) to 10 degrees (night).Snow can be abundant during winter storms.
Smallgrocery stores, restaurants, service stations, churches and K-12 schools are located in Tropic,UT (10 miles away).The nearest medical facilities are in Panquitch, UT (28 miles away). Cedar City, UT (80 miles) has movie theaters, clothing stores, full-service grocery stores and department and home improvement stores.
Park housing is not available.

_QUALIFICATIONS_ : To be eligible for this position, you must possess the qualifying specialized experience and/or education as well as selective factors as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire and as outlined below.
Minimum Qualifications for GS-0303-05 Visitor Use Assistant (Fee Collection)

Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Visitor Use Assistant. My specialized experience includes providing information or assistance to the public in a business or recreation setting; instructing groups of people or individuals; and compiling and analyzing information to report. My experience also included handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain fee and stock data; resolving issues that arise in the remittance process and assisting staff with fee issues; and using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions.
OR EDUCATION: Four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. (You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts indicating degree earned and credit hours in order to qualify based on education).
OR COMBINATION: An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. For example, 6 months of the specialized experience described in A above (50% of the experience requirement), and 3 years of college study from an accredited institution (75% of the qualifying education) as specified in B above, equals greater than 100% of the total requirement. (You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts indicating number of credit hours in order to qualify based on the combination option).

Requirements
1. National Park Service (NPS) uniformed position. Employee will be required to wear a uniform and comply with NPS uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided to defray the cost of the uniform.
2. Applicants must possess a valid state driver's license. This position requires that you operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. A valid State driver's license is required. As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit a completed GSA Form 3607, Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
