DUTIES: Coordinate all technical aspects of on-board diagnostic (OBD) calibration to ensure OBD certification according to schedules and regulatory compliance requirements for each component or system affecting tailpipe emissions. Collect passing and failing data populations to quantify the variability of each in-field diagnostic strategy. Calibrate OBD diagnostic features to minimize false pass and fail and meet the applicable emission standard and in-use monitor performance ratio (IUMPR) requirements. Validate diagnostic software strategy, including shorted high, shorted low, open circuit, rationality, functionality, IUMPR, and legislative diagnostics. Coordinate vehicle usage to meet project plan dates. Perform mock demo emission confirmation testing and update project plan status. Release production OBD calibrations, validate according to design verification plan, and address field issues.
REQUIREMENTS (applicants with any suitable equivalent combination of education, training, or experience are acceptable): Bachelors degree in mechanical or electrical engineering required. 2 years experience in the job described or a Product or Application Development Engineer. Experience must include development of engine control module hardware and software for optimum emission and driveability control; development of combustion control strategies fuel/air distribution and internal and external exhaust gas recirculation; development of fuel system control strategies such as open and closed loop fuel feedback control, fuel properties, injectors, injector timing control, and fuel temperature; development of airflow control strategies such as air flow measurement, manifold pressure, intake resonance, and idle control; data analysis and problem-solving in areas including fuel, airflow, combustion, and control algorithms; and diagnosis of complex vehicle electronic systems.
