Yahoo currently has a Software Development Engineer, Applications position available at our office in Sunnyvale, CA. Duties: Design, build, implement, modify, test, debug and deploy applications for customer or partner facing products or internal users. Applications may include server based web applications and web services, rich browser based client applications (DHTML, Flash, CSS) and desktop based client applications. Primary focus is to develop application logic and/or user interface and ensure that the user experience is accessible, scalable, customizable, internationalized and also works across multiple browsers, platforms and devices. Collaborates in defining APIs/web services provided by the systems developers in order to integrate multiple platforms and technology components into the application. Build the next-generation Personalization Platform. Build the large-scale low-latency distributed application systems that power the personalization experiences across the Yahoo network for hundreds of million users worldwide. Use Big Data technologies (Hadoop). Partner closely with top scientists in Yahoo Research Lab to advance the state-of-the-art in content recommendations using Machine Learning techniques. Explore the frontier of Machine Learning at scale. Work alongside an elite group of high-performing individuals who are passionate about solving personalization and content understanding for hundreds of millions of people. Act as a contributor on projects with high degree of complexity involving large-scale systems with low latency and high scalability requirements. Responsible for successful and timely completion of components in the projects, which will require collaboration with cross-functional partners and teams.
Requirements: Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field and no experience.
Education or Experience must include:
1. Java or C++.
2. Distributed systems, real-time serving systems, or large-scale data pipeline systems.
3. At least one scripting language such as Shell Script, Perl, or Python.
4. Coding in Linux/Unix programming environment, including familiarity with Unix tools and utilities.
5. Machine learning and data mining algorithms.
6. Experience in information retrieval, recommendation, search, or large-scale science-driven advertisement systems.
7. Experience with Big Data technologies (Hadoop).
8. Experience in the area of multi-process/multi-threaded programming.
