Position
Summary:
Training program position serving as pipeline toward regular full-time or part-time Bus Driver position; Successfully completes lecture- based and hands-on State and Department required training to obtain CDL B and required endorsements in preparation to operate school buses safely under all types of weather conditions and transport students and other authorized persons to and from school on regular, special education, and Magnet routes
Note: This is a part-time, non-benefitted position
Duties and
Responsibilities:
Participates in State and District training program to acquire required CDL B and applicable endorsements
Demonstrates learned capability to:
Operate the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner on a route prescribed by the Transportation Department
Conduct thorough pre-trip and post trip inspections of the vehicle and any special equipment
Maintain orderly conduct of student passengers
Report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person other than the driver
Operate the vehicle in accordance with the laws of the state of Georgia and the policies of the state and local board of education
Provide maximum safety for passengers while on the bus and during loading and unloading
Maintain routes and schedules as planned by the local school system personnel
Deliver bus to vehicle maintenance facility as directed by schedule, supervisory personnel, or vehicle maintenance personnel
Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required by local school system
Completes legible and accurate required reports in the prescribed manner
Keeps the assigned bus clean and sanitary at all times
Communicates effectively with the school staff and public
Attends all safety meetings
Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Education:
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years driving experience required; Exemplary driving record classified as no more than 2 moving violations in current 7 year driving history
Certification/Licensure:
Must have or be able to obtain a valid CDL B with Passenger, Air Brake and School Bus endorsements
Minimum
Qualifications:
Successful completion of pre-employment and random drug testing
Successful completion of pre-employment physical and TB testing with result clearance
Annual physical examination with result clearance
Must successfully complete Bus Driver Training Program provided by Fulton County Schools Transportation Department and obtain a CDL B and required endorsements within three (3) test attempts to continue employment with the FCBOE
Excellent driving record
Must be dependable
Good communication skills both written and verbal
Salary Information:
Hourly Rate for 2014-2015 is: $15.39
Part-time driver position will be paid the hourly rate of Grade 24, Step 1 on the Non-Teaching Professional (A) 183-Day Salary Scale. Part-time drivers are paid for hours worked with no minimum hour guarantee.
