The Instrument Technician (D shift) will calibrate and maintain mechanical, pneumatic, chemical, electrical and electronic process controls and measurement instrumentation to approved procedures. Interpret, evaluate and document calibration test results. Generate Instrument Deviation Reports (IDR) for out of tolerance calibrations of process instrumentation and promptly notify the department facilitator and site instrument officer. Generate Notification Of Pending Calibration (NOPC) reports for missed calibration schedules and promptly notify the department facilitator and site instrument officer. Investigate, diagnose and correct measurement system problems. Maintain precise document of records and files that are subject to internal, corporate, federal and state audit / inspections. Maintain laboratory standards, equipment and supplies. Perform installation, tuning, and testing of new process controls and instruments. Provide sketches / redline drawings for changes made to equipment measurement systems. Provide support for and maintain relationship with internal customers.
The Instrument Technician (D shift) will develop and maintain calibration Standard Service Procedures (SSP) documents and database. Determine calibration measurement uncertainty values for new instrument applications. Conduct and maintain measurement assurance ?ross Check?records on calibration standards. Coordinate calibration and repair activities with user department facilitators Provide technical assistance to engineering groups for problem resolution and equipment design considerations for process control and measurement systems. Conduct user training for process and testing instrumentation as required.
In addition, he/she will evaluate and disposition calibration service supplier? calibration reports. Lead investigation, troubleshooting, and corrective action activities for control and measurement system failures. Contact instrument manufacturers and external service groups for repair and calibration support. Identify calibration needs with justification and cost. Lead in the development / upgrade of calibration measurement systems. Generate purchase and shipping requisitions for external calibration and repair services. Lead, train, and develop technical skills for level 12 and 13 Instrument Technicians.
The Instrument Technician (D shift) will provide support for plant emergencies. Keep equipment and work area clean and in a safe working condition. Document all equipment service activities and modifications in the Equipment Logbooks. Work with the engineering departments to arrange calibration scheduling for equipment qualifications. Work with user departments to arrange scheduling of equipment due calibration. Notify department facilitator and site instrument officer of calibration scheduling conflicts. Promptly complete all documentation upon completion of a calibration. Maintain computerized calibration history and scheduling database as required. Work with the site instrument officer in planning departmental budgetary needs for new / replacement equipment and operating supplies. Support engineering groups in equipment process control qualifications. Familiar with company procedure for the Instrument Calibration Program and complete all training requirements. Adhere to FDA quality and worldwide quality systems. Familiar with departmental JSA? (Job Safety Analysis) procedures and complete all training requirements. Familiar with company procedure for the OSHA Lockout / Tagout program and complete all training requirements. Familiar with company procedure for the OSHA Electrical Safety Related Work Practices (ESRWP) program and complete all training requirements. Support the Ethicon Production System (EPS) by identifying, evaluating, and offering solutions to process equipment related problems. Understand and adheres to ETHICOIN production System (EPS) Principles and Rules. Support the plant diversity process. Available to work overtime as required. Perform other work related duties as assigned by supervisor / facilitator. Participate in STOP program.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required. A minimum of two years of technical school, military training, or equivalent OJT (On the Job Training) in advanced electronics or instrumentation required. A minimum of 30-35 months of job experience in servicing and calibrating precision measurement (laboratory) instrumentation, or process measurement instrumentation, or process systems is required. Good mathematical aptitude and skills (familiar with algebraic functions, decimals, fractions, percentages, unit conversions and tolerances) is required. Good mechanical aptitude and skills required. Good diagnostic and logical problem solving skills required. Good writing and oral communications skills required. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and legible penmanship is required. Working knowledge in the principles of mechanical, pneumatic, chemical, electrical and electronic equipment is required. Working knowledge of industrial process sensors (temperature, pressure/vacuum, level, liquid/gas flow, moisture, pH, rotational/linear rates, etc.) is required. Working knowledge in the Principles of Metrology is required. Good interpretation and evaluation skills in analyzing measurement test results is required.
Working knowledge of PC Window based environments for word-processing and database management is preferred. Working knowledge of calibration Standards and applications is preferred. Working knowledge in the use and application of general purpose and specialized test equipment (volt-ohm meters, frequency counters/generators, oscilloscopes, calibrators, etc) is preferred. Working knowledge of industry standard circuit testing techniques and practices is preferred. Good interpretation and application skills for schematic diagrams is preferred. Self-directed and capable of determining needed resources in completing tasks with little or no supervision is preferred. Self-motivated and capable of taking a lead position in completing duties in a team environment is preferred. Good organizational skills to balance priorities with workload is preferred.
Must be able to work rotating 12 hour night shifts (D Shift) (7:00 pm - 7:00 am), which will include alternating weekends. The ability to work occasional overtime and some holidays is required.
