About the Position: This position is supervised by the Watch Commander, Directorate of Emergency Services. This position is located on Historic Main Post, Fort Riley, KS.

A Special Salary Rate is authorized for DA Police Officers at Ft. Riley Employee serves as a point of contact for all traffic accidents and takes charge of an accident scene and conducts the investigation with the assistance, if needed, from the uniformed patrol personnel initially on the scene. Makes apprehensions and performs booking procedures when required. Employee performs selective traffic enforcement duties; enforces a large body of laws relating to the licensing, operation, and physical condition of motor vehicles; and remains alert to violations of these laws and issues warnings or citations. Employee collects evidence and interviews witnesses; performs traffic control duties and uses RADAR and breath test equipment as required in detecting and determining violations; renders first aid to victims involved in accidents until the arrival of qualified medical personnel, or transport to medical facility; and processes offenders suspected of being under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol by using the intoxilyzer and/or standardized field sobriety tests.

Experience required:
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: investigating traffic accidents; interrogating suspects in accordance with appropriate regulations, and performing various law enforcement duties. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
Knowledge of traffic patterns and various laws regarding felonies and in order to determine the necessary course of action for each incident.
Knowledge of investigative techniques, methods, and procedures used to investigate crimes/incidents/traffic accidents, collect and secure evidence, and secure crime scenes.
Knowledge of and ability to use a variety of radar and breathalyzer test equipment.

Will be required to pass entry level and annual re-certification of standard Army physical fitness/agility test per AR 190-56 dated 15 MAR 2013,
Conditions of Employment:
Incumbent must be able to pass, prior to hiring, a physical and mental examination and undergo annual physical and mental examinations to ensure fitness for duty. Must obtain and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid. This position requires the incumbent to carry a firearm. Must be proficient in the use of and qualify annually with assigned duty weapons. This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP), and has been designated by Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security. Personnel must meet the standards for the IRP. Personnel must have successfully completed one of the following: Mixed Basic Police Officer Training Course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center(FLETC); An accredited civilian (Local or State) Law Enforcement Training Academy; A certified Military or Security Police training program (i.e. the United States Army Military Police School), or, if not previously certified, personnel must be able to successfully complete a Police Officer Training Course when offered.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
