Job Description:
This is the career/senior level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level manage work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in use of concepts and procedures. They identify problems, develop solutions, and take actions to resolve.
At ONS, Design Engineering consist of three groups; Modification Engineering, Design Bases Engineering and ERRT. This position is in the Electrical Modification group at Oconee Nuclear Station.
This position will be responsible for:
designing engineered solutions which resolve plant operational challenges and equipment obsolescence issues.
Protecting the Design Basis of the plant.
Primary duties and
Responsibilities:
Prepare Design Change Packages, which include but not limited to: sketches, calculations, test plans, and other associated design documents.
Prepare 50.59 Screens and Evaluations as applicable.
Perform Design Authority Reviews of Design Change Packages
Perform Plant Walkdowns as needed
Interface with nuclear station staff and management to ensure successful design, development, and implementation of engineering changes.
Interface with vendors to ensure the design requirements for new equipment are properly understood.
Demonstrates technical rigor in all assigned activities and serves as the site's technical conscience for the safe and reliable design and operation of the plant.
Provides engineering expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity.
Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, and monitoring of work activities.
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
Demonstrates the attributes of a nuclear professional in all assignments, decisions, and interactions with others.
Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful candidate, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy.

Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer, or nuclear engineering from an ABET accredited university. A Master's degree in engineering or state registration as a Professional Engineer will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience or 4 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
Qualifications:
Two or more years of experience with Emergency Power Systems or Control/I&C system
Minimum of 6 years job-related engineering experience in the nuclear industry
Experience performing Design Changes
Experience performing 50.59 Screens
Registered Professional Engineer.
Previous SRO/TNC/ISS License / Certification.
Experience with related codes and standards (IEEE, EPRI ).
Experience performing calculations / analyses of a complex and/or multi-faceted nature.
Demonstrated self-directed and self-starting individual capable of prioritizing and executing assigned tasks with minimal direction.
Proficient in engineering theories and principles.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple organizations to achieve desired objectives, using the appropriate department and site processes/programs
Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated problem solving and analysis skills for complex issues.
Proficient with computer applications (MS Office, databases, asset suites)
Specific Requirements:
Must qualify and meet requirements for nuclear station unescorted access/security clearance.
Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, clothing, ear plugs, fall protection, etc.) as needed.
Must be able to pass Engineer Training Program requirements.
Working conditions:
Office and plant environment requires walking, light lifting, infrequent climbing and occasional exposure to temperature, noise and radiation.
Highly procedural and process-oriented structure, due to strict regulatory requirements.
Must be able to work some weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
Some on-call duty responsibilities may apply.
Ability to perform field walk-downs in an operating plant
Some travel off of the Duke Energy system is involved. Job: EngineeringEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
