Job Description
Computational Sciences - Statistics & Analytics (CS-SA) group of The Jackson Laboratory is currently seeking an Application Computational Scientist to join our team located in Bar Harbor, Maine. This role offers the opportunity to make leading contributions to cutting edge research in mouse genetics, disease biology, and translational research in collaboration with the faculty, genetic resource scientists and clients of The Jackson Laboratory.
Primary
Responsibilities:
Develop, apply, maintain, and support cutting-edge pipelines for the analysis and interpretation of NGS data (DNA-Seq, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, Bisulphite-Seq etc.)
Work with other scientist's and developers to benchmark both internally and externally developed tools to stay on the cutting edge of NGS data analysis
Stay aware of emerging trends in NGS analysis processes and maintain expertise in application of genomic technologies
Working effectively in a team environment with individuals with varying levels of experience
Providing clear, concise and timely written work agreements and summary of analysis
Collaborating across the industry as well as our internal campus
Writing and editing relevant methodological details for manuscripts and/or grants
Required Skills
Solid knowledge of scripting languages (Perl, Python, R or Ruby), and Unix OS are strictly required
Familiar with popular NGS analysis software (BWA, bowtie, GATK, SnpEff etc.)
Independent decision making capabilities related to projects and work products delivered
Excellent communication skills including skills necessary to present at the conferences and workshops, write study designs and analytical methods
Required Experience
The successful candidate will have a MS or PhD degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics/Computer science (with significant Bioinformatics expertise) or related field
Candidates with a proven track record of omics data analysis, independent collaborative work and leading contributions to a biological discipline would be given preference. Recent graduates with relevant degree and expertise are encouraged to apply.
Experience with _de novo_ assembly/metagenomics/single-cell-genomics is preferred
Experience with large genomic datasets including TCGA, ENCODE, 1000 Genomes Project, and related resources
Experience in developing computational algorithms and systems to support genetics and genomics research
