As an Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) Lead Clerk in a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), you will work as support for Primary Care Outpatient Clinic Team which consists of a Primary Care Provider, Registered Nurse, a Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse. Each team provides the majority of the healthcare needs for an assigned panel of patients - with you as the primary point of contact. The team works collaboratively with other members of an expanded health care primary care team including pharmacists, social workers, dieticians, behavioral health staff, etc. to provide a robust interdisciplinary approach to care.

Previous experience communicating tactfully and effectively, both orally and in writing, in order to meet program objectives via reports or memorandums.
Understanding of technical health care processes as they relate to access to care.
Previously experience managing a clinic by independently using reference sources, making sound decisions, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems.
Ability to understand and policies and procedures associated with operational activities that affect the patient flow, patient care, and the revenue process.
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians.

Due to the nature and requirements of this position, previous experience working in a clinical setting is extremely necessary.
This position serves as the Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) for a PACT(Patient Aligned Care Team) and is under the supervision of Health Administration Management and Revenue Service and works as a Medical Administrative Assistant for Primary Care Outpatient Clinic Service. The AMSA PACT clerk works with a Registered Nurse, a Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse and a Primary Care provider. Each AMSA PACT clerk may be assigned to more than one team. Each team provides the majority of the healthcare needs for an assigned panel of patients. The team works collaboratively with other members of an expanded health care primary care team including pharmacists, social workers, dieticians, behavioral health staff, etc. to provide a robust interdisciplinary approach to care. Duties include but are not limited to: __
performs receptionist, customer service, telephone, patient registration, means tests and other duties.
serves as front line contact with patients and sets the tone for perception concerning quality of healthcare services at the VA. Incumbent must utilize a high degree of tact and diplomacy as well as a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner.
collect insurance information to veterans, their families, and other eligible patients.
promote veteran registration for and utilization of a web based application, online personal health records for Veterans.
interviews patients to make the determination as to the eligibility for various medical services and obtains information relative to reimbursable insurance, employer's name and address, type of insurance coverage and other information needed to obtain pre-approval from the insurance company to process billings.
update and verifies demographic information, scheduling appointments, adding patients to the Recall Reminder, data entry administratively managing consultation requests, the electronic waiting list, and notifying the patient of his/her scheduled appointment.
screen/receive telephone calls in a courteous and timely manner, determine the nature of requests and provide the information desired using privacy rules and established clinic processes, i.e. forward the calls to team members as needed and/or take messages as needed. MSA will retrieve voicemail messages, forward, or take messages per team protocol.
scan and index materials accordingly into system, on a timely basis and within established guidelines; and makes the proper disposition of documents. After the scanning and indexing process is complete, the incumbent will review the quality of scanned documents to ensure integrity of scanned images.
process first party requests for medical records and third party requests from non-VA providers.
identify incomplete encounter information on a daily basis and communicating finds to providers to facilitate accurate workload credit and revenue collection.
support patient safety standards through correct identification of all patients through use of two forms of identification, Veterans Identification Card (VIC) and full Social Security Numbers.
responds to urgent or emergent written(faxed) requests for medical information from hospitals and/or doctors, contacting professional staff to obtain information necessary to respond to request when not available in the records.
participates in the daily team huddles with each assigned team and the weekly meetings where patient care planning and management occur. The MSA is responsible for developing/maintaining effective and efficient communication systems among the patient and the team.
perform function as a Patient Health Coach by working with patients prior to a face to face visit, post visit follow up and between visits such as setting a visit agenda, checking on medication use and ensuring needed testing is conducted or engaging the patient in self-management skill building and overall enhancing the patient experience with the visit.
independently manage position responsibilities with little supervision as well as set priorities and deadlines adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs.
provide administrative support to Physicians, Physician's Assistants, Nurses, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners, Dietitians, Social Workers and other administrative and professional staff.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
A. Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g.)
B. Experience and Education
a. Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; or
b. Education. One year above high school (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) ; or
c. Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

Experience:
Knowledge of Current AMSA Practices. Experience must have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) associated with current AMSA responsibilities. Experience satisfying this requirement may be paid/non-paid employment as a MSA. Make sure this is documented in your resume.
Quality of Experience. Experience is only qualifying if the experience is at a level comparable to AMSA experience at the next lower grade level.
Part-Time Experience. Part-time experience as a AMSA is creditable according to its relationship to the full-time workweek. For example, a AMSA employed 20 hours a week, or on a 1/2-time basis, would receive 1 full-time workweek of credit for each 2 weeks of service.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS: This position is GS-6. The applicant must meet the following requirements to be considered eligible. A Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidate's education and experience and recommend the step at which the candidate will be placed in that specific grade. The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.
GS-6:
A. Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.
B. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs: 1) Ability to collaborate, communicate, set priorities, and organize the work in order to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations. 2) Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, both orally and in writing, in order to meet program objectives. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels. 3) Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process as it relates to access to care. 4) Advanced knowledge of managing a clinic. This includes independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a complex systems environment. 5) Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with operational activities that affect the patient flow, patient care, and the revenue process. 6) Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position is a moderately sedentary position, with work being performed at a desk with computer. No special physical qualifications are required to perform the work, however, emotional stability is required to make sound decisions and resolve crisis situations. The work requires ability to move around the office and the medical center and to carry such items as records, books, and equipment.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
