## Position Description
Introduction: The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an experienced Ballistic Missile Defense Target Requirements Engineer to support requirements development for ballistic missile targets used for missile defense flight testing. This position is located in Laurel, Maryland.
Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):
1. Process threat and weapon system information to assist in the formulation of target requirements. (15%)
2. Generate target vehicle requirements documents and mission requirements documents for missile defense testing. Maintain configuration management of requirements documentation (25%)
3. Participate in missile development activities (e.g., System Requirements Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews), working groups, and flight test milestone reviews (e.g., Scenario Certification, Mission Control Panel). (15%)
4. Perform analyses of target solution alternatives and cost trades for present and future target activities. (20%)
5. Perform analyses/investigations necessary to resolve instance of target hardware non-compliance with requirements (15%)
6. Participate in other system testing or component testing that require ballistic missile targets. (10%)

## Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Physics. At least 5 years of directly applicable work experience in Missile Defense Test and Evaluation or ballistic missile development. Thorough understanding of adversary threats and capabilities. Familiarity with missile flight trajectories and signatures. Familiarity with the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). Ability to process trajectory and signature statistical/Monte Carlo information using MATLAB. Effective and proven interpersonal skills and writing skills. Ability to work effectively independently as well as in a team environment. Secret Clearance upgradeable to Top Secret. This position is located in Laurel, Maryland.

Qualifications: MS or PhD in a technical/engineering discipline, ten years of directly applicable experience, Top Secret Clearance.
Special Working Conditions_:_ Occasional travel to target contractor facilities, sponsor facilities, and test events.
Security: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
