The City of Mt. Pleasant, located in the heart of Michigan's Lower Peninsula offers a growing and financially stable community. We offer ease of access to many of Michigan's treasured assets such as a 1 hour drive to the State Capital of Lansing, just 1.5 hours to Grand Rapids or 2 hours to Ludington and the West Michigan Shoreline, and a simple drive of just 1 hour east to the Bay City area and beautiful vistas along Lake Huron.
We are also home to Central Michigan University's 27,000 plus students and many of its employees. CMU offers more than 170 programs at the Bachelor, Master, and Specialist Degree levels, as well as their newly opened Medical School. Mid-Michigan Community College has a Mt. Pleasant Campus for those who wish to transfer to a university or prepare for a career in health, business or industrial technologies. In addition, five other colleges and/or universities are within 45 miles of Mt. Pleasant. This community is dedicated to education and offers seven neighborhood schools, one middle school and two high schools. In addition, there is one parochial and two charter schools.
This position is salaried at-will and is responsible for the daily operations of the Finance, Assessor, Treasurer, City Clerk and Information Technology departments. The City of Mt. Pleasant operates within a Council-Manager form of government and a familiarity with this style would be beneficial. Candidates must exhibit knowledge of Michigan based governmental accounting practices; have a solid understanding of the functions within the division and provide strong mentoring, guidance and leadership development. We expect the successful candidate to be active in our community on a personal and professional level. This Division Director position is considered a senior leader and reports to the City Manager. You will collaborate with the City Manager, other Division Directors, community partners and staff on a daily basis to ensure solid communication. The position requires a Bachelor Degree (Master's is preferred) in Accounting, Finance, Business, Public Administration or Economics field, with a significant amount of progressively responsible public or private sector finance experience or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additional knowledge in the areas of control procedures, self-funded insurance plans, municipal utilities and operations, contract negotiations, grant processes, economic development, various budgeting approaches, and state laws/regulations are desired.
The City of Mt. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
