Nuclear Engineering interns develop an expertise on nuclear facilities by staying current on developments in the nuclear industry, and assessing the impact of changes on current and future projects. Nuclear engineering internships at Bechtel can lead to a world of career opportunities.
The total number of nuclear engineering interns hired and start dates are subject to workload and business conditions. Locations will vary based on project needs, and include Frederick, MD, Houston, TX and Reston, VA, among others.
General Job Duties
Nuclear Engineering interns may be responsible for:
- Preparing and reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications, plans and requisitions of structures, systems and equipment
- Reviewing design documents from equipment suppliers
- Involved in the critical task of managing nuclear plant licensing, documentation, and safety
- Preparing briefs and/or affidavits for licensing and rate hearings
- Analyze power plant safety systems
- Radiation dose and shielding
- Power plant modification designs
- Piping and instrumentation diagrams
- Conducting computer aided design (CAD) & computer aided engineering (CAE)
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in Nuclear Engineering or related field from an accredited college or University
- Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies in Nuclear Engineering or related field
- Possess the eligibility to work and remain in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Nuclear criticality calculations
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous co-op or internship experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong GPA
