Academy Instructors report to the Academy Supervisor and Assistant Manager for the Store and assists the Supervisor in professionally coordinating and administering all aspects of approved company class offerings, range & simulator operations and private instructions. The Gander Mtn. Academy Instructor will teach, evaluate and monitor all customers in the simulators, classes and shooting ranges.
Essential Functions:
1. Operate the Gander Mtn. Academy range facility ensuring compliance with OSHA and/or EPA standards and regulations.
2. Work with the Academy Supervisor to plan, organize and manage the presentation of firearms training courses.
3. Review established training objectives & lesson plans, training materials and instructional methods prior to the beginning of assigned courses.
4. React promptly, appropriately and decisively in emergencies in which personal safety and that of others may be threatened
5. Immediately analyze, predict, and preclude unsafe situations to ensure training is conducted in a safe and responsible manner.
6. Maintain all equipment for safe and legal operation.
7. Pursue goal of every student having a rewarding and satisfying experience at the Gander Mtn. Academy
Education/
Experience:
High School diploma OR Equivalent AND prior Police, Corrections or Military or private sector firearm training experience highly preferred.
Other
Qualifications:
Proven strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a diverse mix of customers
Must possess good verbal and written communication skills
Ability to organize and prioritize activities with attention to detail
Handle tasks with competing and conflicting requests
Possess expert knowledge of health and safety standards for firearms ranges and training facilities
Computer experience required, familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
