Primary Job FunctionComplete operation of the filler/seamer on three or more filling lines.
Equipment maintenance, PM's, lubrication and cleaning.
Participation in department activities.
Core Job Responsibilities
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
Filler/Seamer operation - Operator Technician Level III can be obtained after a minimum of two years combined experience as Operator Technician Level I and II. The certification of the third filler will be chosen by the supervisor's discretion. They will be required to train new operator technicians and provide shift coverage for vacancies on off shifts. Certification of the third filler is completed prior to becoming an Operator Technician III.
Operator will ensure proper equipment set up for product being filled; knowledge and understanding of the filler computer systems, including: filler set up, report generation, self-diagnostics; seam evaluation; ensure proper fill weights; work order documentation; capable of coordinating entire line changeover for each product; QA testing and documentation. Adjustment of fill weights, powder supply (IBC) system; ensure proper seamer operation; seamer changeover for can heights and routine seam adjustments; ensure integrity of nitrogen; ensure integrity of filled powder product in cans or pouches; equipment adjustments to maintain integrity; daily lubrication and cleaning.
Equipment maintenance - Operator will be responsible for ensuring all PM's are done on a regular basis and updating PM's as deemed necessary.
Department Activities - MRP responsibility; participation in product scheduling; development and updating PM's; scheduled maintenance, etc.; troubleshooting equipment; review of documentation and records; OJT for new or transferred employees.

Position Accountability / Scope
This department is responsible solely for the filling and packaging of powder products produced in the Sturgis plant, both in cans and in pouches.
Minimum EducationHigh School Diploma/GED


Minimum Experience / Training Required
Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritionals.
Reading, writing and mathematical skills are a prerequisite for this job and will be evaluated during the 90 day probationary period.
Familiarity in the use of hand tools (wrenches, lubrication devices, micrometers, calipers, etc.) Forktruck/handtruck, filling and packaging equipment

Familiarity with current powder processing, filling, seamer and packaging operations on more than one filling line is beneficial.
Determining equipment problems with the use of the filling computer or personal experience; adjusting filler for weight variances; adjusting seamer for different can heights and verifying seam integrity; correction of batch records and other documentation.
