Yahoo currently has a Software Development Engineer, Systems position available at our office in Sunnyvale, CA. Duties: Working on projects of diverse scope and complexity, design, build, implement, modify, test, debug and deploy software systems, large-scale infrastructure platforms and network services that are the foundation of multiple Yahoo properties and applications. Responsible for performance, reliability, availability, scalability and security. Services are delivered to applications through standard and proprietary protocols and behavior may be customized via complete APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and/or web services. Support Payments and Fraud platform. Play a key role in supporting and troubleshooting system issues for payments platform in a 24/7 mission critical, production environment as well as integration and sandbox environments. Work on payment and fraud systems which are complex, multi-tiered, and distributed web-based software applications. Use technical and analytical expertise and knowledge of the systems and domain to resolve all system problems and customer issues. Use programming background in technologies such as Java, C++, Javascript, PERL, shell scripting, SQL, PHP to get to determine root cause of issues, fix code issues and implement tools that enhance support effectiveness and improve quality. Support applications that run in a LINUX/UNIX environment. Collaborate with internal customers, engineers, project managers, DBAs, service engineers, external service providers and operations staff to resolve all issues in a timely manner. Learn systems and payment flows quickly. Develop a deep understanding of Yahoos payment and fraud applications. Document and manage reported technical support issues. Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues/failures in production, integration and sandbox environments. Manage customer communication, assuring timely status updates and issue resolution. Share rotating duties of 24x7 production support. Handle production support, production crises, on-call duties. Determine and document severity of production issue. Provide technical integration support to internal teams integrating with systems. Determine and document root cause on issues. Diagnose and fix bugs. Build and maintain support tools as needed to improve efficiency and productivity Identify patterns in issues and recommend enhancements to address recurring issues Identify and develop metrics to measure the bug impacts for prioritization and resolution. Provide meaningful insights for vulnerable areas based in bugs encountered in production. Author knowledgebase support information for internal and external use. Learn new product features prior to new releases in order to be able to provide support Mentor junior support team members. Support PCI compliance, SOX audits.
Requirements: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field followed by 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in job offered or a computer-related occupation.
Experience must include:
1. Systems and domain experience resolving all system problems and customer issues.
2. Programming experience in technologies including Java, C++, Javascript, PERL, shell scripting, SQL, PHP to get to determine root cause of issues, fix code issues and implement tools that enhance support effectiveness and improve quality.
3. Experience supporting applications that run in a LINUX/UNIX environment
4. Software Engineering processes, tools, methods, test development and/or support
5. Business documentation tools and methodologies
6. C++/Object-oriented programming, large-scale software architecture, networking and distributed systems, and/or UNIX/NT development
7. Java/J2EE
8. SubVersion, Maven, Continuous Integration
9. Experience with on call / pager support for complex and distributed web-based applications
10. 3 years experience with Java and/or C+
in a support or developer role
11. 3 years experience with Apache
