Position Description
This position performs a variety of responsible administrative and human resources related duties for a major division in the Public Works Department. Performs related duties as required.
Typical Duties:
Performs professional-level administrative duties and keeps the manager informed on activities occurring within the division which could have a direct effect on departmental operations.
Interprets policies, rules, and regulations as required.
Analyzes and recommends methods for improving work flow in such areas as record keeping systems, forms control, and general office operation.
Assists with budget preparation and related fiscal activities within the division.
Works on special projects as directed by the manager.
Researches and gathers relevant statistical, financial, and personnel data used in planning and decision-making.
Acts as a liaison between the manager/division and internal and external stakeholders.
Enters and reviews HR transactions in accordance with Civil Service and/or departmental rules, policies and procedures.
Compiles and/or maintains HR records, including employee files, attendance records and/or payroll information, or related files and records.
Serves as a point of contact for internal and external employees and the public with questions or issues related to division/department operations.
Assists with other activities as needed.
Attends board/commission meetings or other meetings related to departmental operations.
May develop agenda items and/or takes and distributes minutes of meetings.
May establish and maintain effective working relationships with various board/commission members and elected officials.
Minimum
Qualifications:
High School Diploma plus six (6) years of increasingly responsible administrative experience, including three (3) years of experience in a governmental environment providing administrative or human resources support to a division or higher level manager.
_License Required:_
Class D Driver's License
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Thorough knowledge of current practices in the preparation of municipal government reports and correspondence.
Skill in handling inquiries and dealing with problems.
Ability to gather and interpret a wide variety of data.
Ability to use office equipment and personal computer.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
