Project Description:
The Research Scientist for the Upstream Process Development group in Bloomsbury will work in the mammalian cell culture laboratories, participating on a cross functional team involved in the development, optimization, and scale up of biologic manufacturing processes. The position will be responsible for conducting experiments in shake flaks and bioreactors for the development of manufacturing processes for biologics. Primary duties will include execution of mammalian cell culture processes, bioreactor set-up and operations, optimization of process parameters, statistical design and evaluation of experiments (DOE), scale-up and scale-down studies, and technology transfer of processes to manufacturing facilities. The successful candidate will be able to work independently in a bioreactor laboratory with suspension cultures and be able to plan and analyze data and communicate scientific results to management. This position requires a weekend-shift schedule.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have an M.S. Degree in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related discipline, with up to 4 years of industry experience, or a B.S. Degree with 2 to 6 years of industry experience.
The candidate must have experience in a laboratory environment, and must be proficient in aseptic and mammalian cell culture technique.
Proficiency with MS Excel is also required.
Experience with bioreactors, DOE, statistical analysis, and an understanding of cellular metabolism are strongly preferred.
Experience in Biologics or Biotechnology is a plus.
The candidate must demonstrate high standards of quality, self-motivation, good communication skills and a proven ability to work with others.

This position requires a weekend-shift schedule. Candidate must be willing to work Saturdays and Sundays.
