Title: Satellite Communications Technician Location: Maryland-Aberdeen
Key Role:
Support the installation, operation, and maintenance of enterprise and tactical satellite communications (SATCOM) networks, terminals, and associated equipment in Ka-band, X-band, C-band, Ku-band, EHF, and UHF frequency ranges. Monitor and analyze satellite communication links and identify and rectify performance issues. Perform troubleshooting and repair of High-Power Amplifiers (HPA), fiber-optic systems, up converters, down converters, RF switching units, Antenna Control Units (ACUs), Low-Noise Amplifiers (LNAs), and Low-Noise Block Down converters (LNBs) and switching and monitoring audio and video equipment. Perform fault isolation and diagnostic assessment and execution of corrective actions on real-time basis. Perform routine and non-routine repair of satellite antenna systems and associated subsystems. Conduct interval and demand preventive maintenance checks and services IAW site specifications. Interface with functional users in both routine and reactive monitoring situations and maintain logs and records associated with testing requirements, problem reporting, troubleshooting, and help desk support. This position requires occasional shift work on a rotational basis, as dictated by customer and mission schedule.
Basic
Qualifications:
-4 years of experience with earth station systems or training
-Experience with military satellite constellations and ground station equipment
-Experience with using common test equipment, including digital test sets, spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, and power meters
-Experience with troubleshooting problems with telecommunications equipment
-Ability to adapt to changing requirements and manage multiple technical tasks, as assigned
-Ability to work shift work and atypical hours in support of customers worldwide, including night, weekends, and holidays
-Ability to display a strong work ethic
-Secret clearance
-BA or BS degree
Additional
Qualifications:
-Experience in working with the DoD teleport system
-Experience with operating UHF, EHF, and AEHF terminals
-Experience with system level and bench level electronics troubleshooting
-Experience with commercial satellite constellations and ground station equipment
-Experience with IP-based satellite communications networks
-Knowledge of MIL-STDs and certifications
-Ability to read and interpret schematics, assemble wave guide systems, efficiently leverage sophisticated test equipment, perform documentation tasks, and successfully interact with management and engineers preferred
-Possession of excellent technical, analytical, and critical thinking skills
