Coding System Analyst, HIM

Primarily responsible to coordinate, lead, monitor and audit various coding applications and system-related resources for optimal system and workflow performance in support of HIM coding functions. Under limited supervision, the Coding System Analyst will analyze results, measure trends or variations and make recommendations to drive continual process improvement. The HIM System Analyst facilitates management of operations by collecting, analyzing, validating, and providing aggregate data that supports HIM management and operational activities for coding services.
Essential Functions:
- Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in data sets to identify problematic areas and conduct research to determine best course of action.
- Develops PowerPoint presentations and spreadsheets, reports, and flow charts by gathering and analyzing statistical data on department work volumes, employee quantitative and qualitative performance, attendance, and production.
- Analyze and problem solves issues with current and planned systems as they relate to the integration and management of multiple coding and related application systems. Develops data collection strategies to optimize efficiency, improve data quality, validity and reliability; format relevant content into usable information, mapping data collection and documentation to workflows.
- Monitor data for improvement opportunities and prepare written reports with findings. Utilizes all resources available to research issues that help apply coding guidelines appropriately.
- Works closely with coding personnel to identify opportunities for improvement or additional project work identified. Review bulletins, newsletters, and periodicals and attend workshops to stay abreast of current issues, trends, and changes in the laws and regulations governing coding and documentation to mitigate the risk of fraud and abuse and to optimize revenue recovery. Maintain records for a minimum of ten years to include action plans, audit tools, reports (including recommendations). In collaboration with others, identifies key performance measures and targets for productivity. Generate routine and/or ad-hoc reports to provide managers with daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly statistics and reports.

- Minimum one (1) year of health care experience in acute care setting.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in health information management to include data metrics, data analysis, and operations.
Education
- Associate's degree in health information management or other related management field.
License, Certification, Registration
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required upon hire/transfer.
Additional Requirements:
- Must exhibit efficiency, collaboration, openness, and be results orientation.
- Competent computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
- Possesses excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in data-mining techniques and procedures and knowing when their use is appropriate.
- Demonstrates a high level of verbal and written communication with staff and in all areas and departments. Possesses excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Perform and complete other duties as requested.
Preferred
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred. Health Information Management with additional certification in coding and/or data management CDA.
- Additional certification in coding and/or data management.
- Registered Health Information Technician or Administrator (RHIT, RHIA), Clinical data analyst (CDA) or other project management designation.
External hires must pass a background check/drug screen.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
