We are currently looking for a technically strong journeyman with good leadership skills who is looking for advancement! Alliant Energy has an exciting leadership opportunity available to supervise our line crew in Berlin, WI - located on the scenic Fox River. The crew is made up of five experienced journeymen with a strong commitment to safety and ethics and serves the rural areas of Berlin, Omro, Winneconne, Red Granite and the surrounding areas.
In this role you will be responsible for providing support and leadership for the district crew, responsible for constructing, dismantling, maintaining, replacing and repairing electric lines, stations, substations and other properties as required. This position has core hours of Monday-Friday (7:00am-3:30pm) and is responsible for taking after-hours emergency calls. As an emergency responder, the selected applicant will be required to live or relocate within 20 minutes of the assigned headquarters.

Supervises work on right-of-way, structures, conductors, transformers (overhead and underground), plants, substations and auxiliary equipment.
Acts as a role model in attitude, safety, productivity, emergency response, and good business judgment.
Coaches employees on their performance on these aspects of the job.
Supervises the erection and guying of poles.
Climbs poles and works with tools for the purpose of construction and maintenance of electric lines and other properties as required.
Supervises the placing of all auxiliary equipment.
Assures employee compliance with Safety Rules, Operating Practices, Construction Standards and Accounting Procedures.
Instructs the crew in safe work methods.
Supervises installation and connection of transformers and other line apparatus.
Provides proper clearances for safety and good service.
Supervises installation, splicing and securing of conductors.
Installs and removes meters; oversees the proper installation of services.
Maintains records pertaining to apprentice training.
Contacts the public in connection with line work.
Moves heavy objects.
Requisitions, receives and issues material.
Keeps records, prepares reports.
Performs other duties which are similar, related or incidental to this position.
Working Conditions -
Varied outdoor work, sometimes under disagreeable weather conditions, at hours conforming with the Union Agreement, a lead line technician may be required to do work, except where such work by the lead line technician would interfere with proper supervision of the job and the safety of the employees. In emergencies, the above restrictions may be modified to suit the needs that the emergency creates.
Two years' experience working on energized lines as a line technician.
Familiarity with A.C. theory and fundamentals of electricity and with testing apparatus, and live line maintenance tools.
Thorough knowledge of the Company Safety Rules and Operating Practices and requirements of the State Electrical Code as it relates to line construction and maintenance.
Thorough knowledge of the company's standards of line construction and tree trimming.
Understanding of work order procedures and allocation of charges.
Ability to make understandable sketch maps and to read maps and blueprints.
Ability to make repairs and adjustments on motors, transformers, and other electrical equipment.
Ability to supervise others and to deal with the public, sensitivity to public opinion and property-owners' rights.
Demonstrated ability as a leader in attitude, safety, productivity, and good business judgment, emergency response, and other competencies as outlined in the Lead Line Technician expectations. Individuals selected for this position will have previously demonstrated these competencies as a journeyman.
Possession of a valid driver's license; ability to maintain a Commercial Driver's License.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.

This position is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug/alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 382), and is subject to drug/alcohol testing according to said regulations.
