CH2M HILL Field Engineering Technician Careers - Lawrence, KS, US
The challenge? Help provide and sustain clean water resources around the world. Our Field Engineering Technician jobs provide you with an opportunity to work on exciting and large-scale wastewater project. Each day, you will act as a crew member, and possibly leader, for various field activities while working on a variety of Wastewater projects. This position will work on a variety of projects throughout the United States and will require extensive travel.
You should be a self-motivated professional with experience in physical inspection and condition assessment of water and wastewater distribution and collection systems. In particular, experience with water flow monitoring; manhole inspections; smoke testing; dye-water testing; building inspections; pipeline cleaning; CCTV inspections; and GPS surveying would be a plus. The successful candidate must have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each Engineering Technology job.
Our Field Engineering Technicians :
Monitor field-related services provided by the firm or other sub-consultants, including field training for temporary and municipal employees to conduct the above testing and inspection activities, and may serve as construction manager on job sites.
Assist Project Engineers in developing sanitary sewer database models by collecting and evaluating system information, maps and other pertinent data; operating sewer modeling software; and creating modeling reports and documents.
Conduct materials testing and analysis; prepare reports detailing tests conducted and results; maintain detailed project daily diary, including pertinent construction related information; survey project sites to obtain and analyze topographical details of sites; calculate dimensions, profile specifications, and quantities of materials such as pipeline, concrete, and asphalt; inspect construction work to determine conformance of work to design specifications; and assist engineers to ensure that construction and repair of wastewater collection systems meet project contract requirements.
Read and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos as well as have the ability to write day-to-day correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume as well as apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
Apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form in addition to dealing with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Are familiar with MS Office Suite software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)and survey inspection and testing equipment.

Have a valid Driver's license
Are required to required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.

Basic Qualifications
Valid Drivers License.
Willing to travel 75-100% of the time.
6 months experience with CH2M HILL projects in an engineering technician role.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years prior experiences working with a public or private utility.
Prior experience with wastewater flow monitoring.
