The USPS OIG is seeking a highly qualified applicant to fill our Economist position in the Risk Analysis Research Center (RARC) located in Arlington, VA. The RARC group conducts research and analysis on economic, business, and public policy issues pertaining to the Postal Service. The successful candidate will help gather and analyze data, research economic and public policy issues, conduct quantitative studies, prepare executive presentations, manage and work with contractors, and write analytical reports pertaining to the postal industry and Postal Service economics and operations. For this position, the successful candidate should be capable of finding innovative ways to relay complicated information to a non-technical audience.
Candidates will be evaluated on the skills that they possess that are directly related to the duties of the position and/or the experience, education and training that indicate the applicant's ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. The USPS OIG uses a Pay Banding system, which is equivalent to the Federal GS scale. Grade and salary determinations will be made based upon a candidate's education and professional experience.
This position is being advertised at the Journey Band level, equivalent to a GS 9 - GS -13. The salary range for this position is $52,146 - $116,901. The salary figures include locality pay. Promotion potential to a GS-13 equivalent at management's discretion.

Responsible for economic research, analytical techniques for economic studies and conducting analysis of economic issues
Identifies problems, assesses the adequacy of existing programs, and recommends changes
Conducts policy oriented research in development of innovative approaches to existing and new problems in an economic field
Applies economic analysis, quantitative techniques, and qualitative research to produce white papers in the study of financial, economic, business, and policy issues
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in economics; or any degree and courses including at least 21 semester hours in economics, and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
