Gerdau is currently seeking a Fabrication Supervisor (Day Shift) for its Memphis, TN facility.


Basic Function:
Supervise and coordinate an assigned shift work force engaged in bar shop fabricating operations involving warehousing, material handling, shearing, and bundling of reinforcing steel. Responsible for the efficient operation of overhead cranes, bending machines and shear-lines.

Nature and Scope:
The primary function of the Rebar Fabrication Supervisor is to see that the work scheduled is performed in an efficient and safe manner.
The Supervisor is responsible for hourly employees and expected to spend up to 95% of the time on the shop floor training, directing, and following up.
The Supervisor and Shop Superintendent work closely and are in daily contact as to planning, coordinating schedules, shipping priorities and personnel-related Issues. The Supervisor also assists with updating schedules, maintaining shop performance records and remaining informed as to what is planned for the near future.

This position offers several challenges: (1) training employees to achieve maximum productivity in a safe manner, (2) motivating employees and creating a good working atmosphere, thereby reducing employee turnover, (3) achieving scheduled tonnage requirements.

Responsibilities:
Safe and efficient operation of the shop.
Training of employees.
Maintaining productivity in the following areas: shearing, bending, loading.
Administering periodic reviews.
Administering discipline.
Enforcing company policy and procedures.

Qualifications include:
Bachelor's degree in a related field
2 - 5 years of supervisory experience in a similar fabrication / manufacturing environment
Experience with overhead cranes and other industrial equipment; a good understanding of general maintenance and equipment repairs is required in order to reduce downtime.
Proficient with MS Outlook, Word and Excel. Experience with PowerPoint, SAP and aSa preferred. Exposure to CAD helpful.
Understanding with Lean Manufacturing techniques, 5S, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement tools preferred
Good presentation skills
Must be able to lift 55 lbs to pick-up truck bed height on a regular basis
Typically working Monday through Friday during the day, with some work on 2nd shift and/or Saturdays as business needs dictate.
Approximately 5 % travel required.
Position requires prolonged work in non-heated or air conditioned environment.
Working knowledge of: System transactions, including order processing, release confirmation, receiving and cycle counts; ability to print and examine inventory reports; truck dispatch operations; highway transportation regulations; OSHA and other regulatory agency requirements.
