The System Engineer is responsible for the collection of requirements and design of performance management solutions to monitor and maintain the T-Mobile network. These solutions will be utilized to provide proactive management and reporting for the T-Mobile network. The system engineer will work with other departments, vendors, and partners to design network management solutions as required. Responsibilities of this position include the following: Work with network element vendors to gather requirements from internal groups within the engineering and operations organizations. Create performance management designs based on the analysis of fault management requirements. Work with the development and operations teams to ensure the integrity of performance management designs and implementation of performance management system features. Create technical documents such as Feature Requirements Document (FRD), Device Model Specifications, Alarm Template Specifications, and Interface Specifications. Proactively work to identify and resolve issues related to performance management. Provide subject matter expertise (SME) understanding and act as a point of contact for performance management to internal and external organizations.
Minimum Required Skills / Competencies:
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Extensive knowledge of GSM 1900 wireless technology performance applications; various platforms, including 2G/3G Ericsson, 2G/3G Nokia, 2G Nortel, Tellabs, Alcatel/Spatial, Comverse, and ATM technology.
Strong understanding of UMTS technology and network topology migration.
Knowledge in ALCATEL Platform (MSS and MGW).
Detailed understanding of transport architecture, equipment and hierarchy.
In depth knowledge of SS7 signaling networks and protocols.
In-depth understanding of practical Data Translations and routing schemes.
In-depth understanding of EOS or Clear Codes.
Strong skills in Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.
Working knowledge of perl or unix shell scripting and database programming skills (SQL) to support data manipulation and post processing
Strong communications skills.
Capable of providing training to develop skills of Market Operations Techs
Ability to define processes and document processes
Ability to develop standards across diverse groups
Ability to provide direction to peers and propose performance expectations in project-related roles.
Ability to lead and facilitate meetings.
Ability to manage multiple projects.
Vigilant in the execution of efforts and initiatives the team is engaged in
Expert user of all tools that support performance metrics gathering, data analysis, problem isolation and resolution
Experience working in a UNIX environment
Experience working with Databases, Oracle and Windows SQL server
Experience with 3rd party performance management applications, Metrica, Watchmark, NSN Global reporter, Optima
Knowledge of modeling data within Oracle databases
Extensive knowledge of BSS/NSS vendor specific counters for 2G/3G technologies (Ericsson, Nokia, Nortel, Alcatel, IP Access)
Knowledge of designing frontend applications and data presentation within telecommunications performance management.
Experience gathering requirements and writing specifications for frontend and backend reporting
Bachelors Degree in Engineering 2-4 yrs Network Engineering 6
yrs relevant telecommunications experience Preferred skills:
Previous experience with performance management applications a plus, netact, T-PIM, aircom, netrac, metrica.
Previous experience with development a plus, shell scripting, Oracle PL/SQL, writing SQL querys.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
