Under moderate supervision, responsible for rating/coding a range of insurance policies and/or audit transactions of average complexity in Business Markets. Frequently exercises initiative and independent judgement and solves problems of limited scope and complexity.
Please Note: This position is eligible to be hired at a Business Rater II to a Lead Business Rater depending on experience.


Responsibilities:
Interprets and applies undrwriting, audit, sales, Bureau and Company instructions for policy and/or audit rating, premium coding, statistical coding to calculate a range of insurance policies and/or audit transaction in Business Markets.
Analyzes new business applications, renewal instructions, requests for policy changes, and/or audit data verifying all pertinent information to produce policy and/or audit transactions.
Applies, interprets and maintains Bureau and Company rating manuals, supplements, procedural bulletins and all pertinent system applications needed to perform calculations.
Prepares instructions for policy writing and billing instructions, and statistical coding for Policy Production, Accounting and Statistical.
Computes premium charges using rating manuals for variables such as loss and expense constants, experience modifications, discount factors, dividends, etc.
May answer questions and provide guidance to other raters.
Performs additional duties as requested.

Qualifications:
Good math, problem solving, detail and interpretation skills in order to issue rated policies and audit transactions.
Broad working knowledge of technical procedures of insurance coverages, procedures, rating/coding manuals and other departments.
High school diploma or equivalent training, plus a minimum of 18 months of insurance related experience preferable in Business Markets is required.
