Primary purpose of the role
The Export Specialist will handle customer service and operations for all export freight activities in order to meet or exceed customer service expectations while maintaining compliance with TSA, IACSSP, IATA, IMO, US Customs, and all related government and industry standards. This position will report to the Export Manager on a timely basis concerning management information.
Key Accountabilities
Taking operational & customer service responsibility for all files handled and/or assigned.
Maintaining efficient processes associated with air and sea freight shipments.
Arranging pick up and transportation of any Export freight handled.
Establishing and maintaining a positive relationship with subcontractors serving the station.
Creating a timely record of and ensure prompt rating and invoicing of all files handled and/or assigned in the export Freight department.
Providing prompt Export quotations to Customers, Sales personnel, and Overseas Stations/Agents.
Following all Hazardous, US Export Customs, IATA, & FMC regulations.
Ensuring all ocean export rates are filed promptly with the FMC.
Ensuring agents shipments are completed promptly with daily update.
Working with station managers to set standards and metrics for station performance.
Working with stations to ensure efficient and accurate collection of operational reporting data.
Operating the routing and handling of files and shipments.
Negotiating rates and fees with subcontracts.
Handling all customer requirements.
Working with station management to implement client relationships nd operational procedures.
Occasionally completing light warehouse work including operating a forklift
Performing other related duties, as assigned.
Necessary Skills
Reasoning - Ability to define and analyse a problem, gather necessary information, and draw valid conclusions for problem resolution. Ability to make effective decisions.
Technical Must possess full knowledge and understanding of both Air and Ocean operation, procedures, requirements, and compliance. Must be detail-oriented with the ability to see the bigger picture Must be result-driven, organized, and welcoming of constructive criticism. Ability to work in multi-functional roles.
Technological Good PC proficiency, data analysis skills, and knowledge of Excel. Knowledge of CargoWise and AESDirect.
Social - Ability to work well with customers, in groups, and under own initiative. Ability to work in a small office environment as part of a team.
Language - Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and within the organization via all media, both verbal and written.
Educational/Experiential Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
2
years of related experience or educational equivalent
Extensive knowledge of ocean export operations in international freight forwarding
Preferred Qualifications
College Degree preferred
Knowledge of air export operations
Professional qualification (customs house broker license, etc)
Business related qualification (transportation/logistics societies, etc.)
Haz-Mat General Awareness training
TSA certification
FMC knowledge
AES certified
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk; hear; stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers to handle and feel; reach with hands and arms; and be able to lift up to twenty (20) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
Work Environment
Work is generally performed within an office environment with standard office equipment available. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate. This job can be subject to high levels of stress and visibility within the company. This job requires adaptability.
