Sleep Number is seeking a highly effective Safety and Yard Lead to supervise and lead all safety activities within the Order Fulfillment Department and Sewing Department. Primary responsibilities include training and compliance with codes of safe practices and procedures, evaluating employee performance relative to safety in order to make recommendations to the Team Manager for employee development and discipline, resolving issues impacting safety and recommends and/or implements process improvements, in addition to managing the trailers in the yard, fork lift maintenance, and the yard truck.
Runs and presents monthly safety training across all shifts for the OF and Sewing Departments
Coordinates the maintenance and repair of forklifts.
Maintains and reviews the daily forklift status reports from the operators
Reviews forklift concerns and issues with employees. May revoke licenses if appropriate.
Develops and runs reports for internal and external communication including the yard and trailer chock report
Manages all trailers in the yard and transports trailers to third party warehouse and other destinations as needed
Maintains and reviews the maintenance of the yard truck
Responsible for the training of new team members on appropriate safety processes and procedures
Conducts Orientation for Temporary Employees on Select Comfort safe forklift practices and procedures
Coordinates efforts with team members and floor supervisors to organize and clean the warehouse and the yard
Works with operators and other team leads to assist in receiving, packing, and shipping activities when needed
Conducts team meetings as needed; leads weekly meeting for each department
Complies with Codes of Safe Practices and work in accordance with company safety policies and trains designated team members to do the same
Participates in cycle counts and physical inventory as needed
Coordinates hand-offs and communication with Floor Supervisors that work on other shifts
Recommends and/or implements process improvements for the work area
Handles expedited requests for material needed by the shipping team lead which may include items that need to be retrieved from our third party warehouse or trailers that need to be moved and unloaded quickly
Reports any escalated issues or questions to area Team Manager
Backfills for the Receiving Floor Supervisor when needed
Experience
2-3 years of work history in a warehouse or production leadership role preferred
Experience with an automated inventory control system (i.e. scanner, ship labels)
Education
High school diploma or GED required
Bachelor's degree preferred
Certifications
Individuals in this position will be required to earn forklift certification
CDL
Other specialized skills, abilities, working conditions (Computer, interpersonal, analytical, willingness to travel, lifting, etc)
Must be able to understand and communicate written and verbal instructions in English
Must be able to follow a production schedule
Must be able to demonstrate good problem solving ability and leadership
Must be able to communicate effectively with plant and corporate leaders
Must be able to lead in a team environment and develop positive relationships with co-workers
Intermediate computer skills required (for data entry into standard screens and building excel and access files to manage and organize work on the floor)
Must be able to operate simple hand tools (i.e. utility knife, tape gun, etc.)
Ability to safely use hand trucks
Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. on a regular basis and perform repetitive bending and twisting motions
Must be able to stand 8.0 hours or more per shift
Must be able to work overtime as required, including weekends
The work environment includes moving equipment, a moderate noise level and some fluctuations in temperature

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
