Merck Animal Health, Millsboro, DE is a BioTechnology Center of Excellence that manufactures, fills, packages and distributes vaccines for animals. Our site is responsible for mammalian, insect and avian cell culture production, live bird vaccine production, embryonated egg vaccine production, roller bottle vaccine production, bioreactor vaccine production and down-stream processing (water in oil emulsions, aseptic filling, lyophilization, etc.)
A Sr. Manufacturing Technician is primarily involved in the manufacturing process; and is responsible for critical laboratory procedures and duties in the production of the various veterinary products. Technicians may work with a variety of technical equipment while completing cell culture processes throughout the manufacturing cycle. At all times technicians must follow Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operating Procedures and adhere to all safety and company policies, perform duties assigned by department supervision.
Some duties may include, but are not limited to:
Demonstrates, at all times, safe work habits and maintains a safe work environment. Understands and complies with all safety and company policies and procedures.
Perform aseptic procedures including media preparation, antigen inoculation and harvest, tissue culture preparation and harvest, filling vaccines, etc.
Complete non-aseptic procedures including handling of live poultry in the process of harvesting tissue and waste
Clean work area including floors, walls, tables, etc.
Prepare, clean and sterilize glassware and equipment for use.
Equipment setup and operation.
Filling, labeling, capping, packaging and inspecting product.
Concurrent record keeping including charts, log books, and all pertinent documentation.
Report all unusual, non-routine occurrences when performing tasks.
Perform more advanced mathematical calculations and conversions
Assist in monitoring and requisitioning laboratory supplies

Technicians may be responsible for accumulation, labeling and management of hazardous, universal and/or infectious wastes.
Assist in reviewing and developing S.O.P's, Production Outlines and Special Outlines
Review production records and entering technical data into required system.
Aide in planning and implementing daily and weekly laboratory assignments as well as special projects and other tasks.
Attend training classes, workshops, meetings, etc., as required to improve job skills and product-related procedures
Assist in training new team members
This position requires varying environmental conditions, such as: varying temperatures along with secondary gowning, entering coolers and freezers. Majority of time is spent standing, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting. May be required to lift up to 50lbs at times. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is required per Safety Policy. Examples of required PPE are: safety glasses, safety shoes, LN gear, face shield, apron, gloves.
Qualifications
Education Minimum Requirement:
High School diploma/GED with a minimum of 3 years of manufacturing laboratory experience or related vaccine production experience
Associates degree with a minimum of 2 years of manufacturing laboratory experience or related vaccine production experience
Bachelor's degree in Biology or related discipline with no experience
Required Experience and Skills:
Must have the ability to gown into scrubs and secondary cleanroom gowning
Must have the ability to read, write and understand technical information and to effectively communicate information to colleagues at various levels
Applicant must be able to work flexible work schedule, including overtime, to meet the demands of the manufacturing process
Must be flexible to work in all areas of manufacturing as needed by management to meet production demands
Applicant must be able to work with poultry eggs and live poultry

Aseptic cleanroom behavior experience
