Thriving on a diverse company culture, celebrating the uniqueness of our employees and committed to inclusion. Proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
Identification and development of innovative platform technologies is critical in enabling the discovery of novel, highly differentiated small molecule drugs. The Emerging Technologies Team of Discovery Sciences focuses on the creation, incubation and application of cutting-edge platforms to pursue increasingly challenging drug discovery opportunities. Major activities will include assay development, computational modeling, and pilot screening/synthetic work, to discover druggable small molecule modulators of protein-protein interactions, and to profile the pharmacological action of drugs employing high resolution phenotypic readouts. The Emerging Technologies Team will closely collaborate with Janssen Therapy Areas and functional teams, Innovation Centers in San Francisco, Boston, London and Shanghai, and external collaborators in academia and industry.
The primary responsibility for the Scientist position will be to shape our efforts in drug discovery, to make contributions of strong scientific impact to high risk/high reward projects focusing on the identification of small molecules that modulate protein-protein interactions driving disease pathogenesis. The successful candidate will have a solid background in biochemistry, biophysics or structural biology, which may include incipient knowledge of structure activity relationships and molecular modeling. Responsibilities will include origination and defense of novel approaches to the identification and pharmacological profiling of small molecule agents for new and on-going projects, the design and prosecution of experimental strategies, closely overseeing the generation, analysis and accurate recording of data, and presentation of findings to peer scientists. Direct experience with major cell surface and intracellular targets involved in the modulation of pathogenic responses is a must, as well as conceptual and hands-on understanding of protein ligand-receptor interactions. We seek individuals with a strong ability to connect key stake holders for the delivery of critical goals and objectives, fostering an environment of collaboration, collegiality and positive communication, which can show superior performance in the context of a multidisciplinary, geographically disperse team.
Qualifications
A minimum of a PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular pharmacology or other quantitative biology fields with a focus on molecular mechanisms controlling disease is required. A minimum of 0-3 years of post-doctoral training or equivalent industry experience in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular pharmacology or other quantitative biology fields with a focus on molecular mechanisms controlling disease is required. Familiarity with peak technologies and computational approaches to the structural dissection of ligand-receptor systems, with a special focus on protein-protein interactions is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of an interactive team environment is required. Publications in peer-reviewed journals are preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. The position is located in Spring House, PA and may require minimal travel
