Position Summary
The Journeyman in Training, JIT (Operations), must be able to operate individual systems in the plant to support unit operation during normal operating conditions, start-ups and shutdowns. The JIT normally works under the general supervision of a Journeyman while in the training period. The JIT is required to complete the JIT training program as set forth by the Colstrip Technical Training Department, including classroom training, on the job training, check sheets for systems in the plant, and testing requirements. Extensive knowledge of all systems is required for operating and monitoring systems and accurately troubleshooting and diagnosing problems for fast, efficient maintenance work. Special projects such as testing and clearance work will also be required.
Primary Responsibilities
Operate all plant systems to support unit operation.
Take readings and monitor all systems in assigned area.
Must be able to safely shut down and isolate systems for maintenance.
Train or assist in training of apprentices.
Keep other personnel informed of equipment status.
Work well as a team member with both operations and maintenance personnel.
Demonstrate working knowledge of steam plant systems and their interrelationships.
Must complete all requirements of the JIT training program as set forth by Technical Training Department.
Work and function well on rotating 12-hour shifts, or on dayshifts as assigned.
Maintain assigned cleaning area.
Assist maintenance as required.
Candidate Qualifications
Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration.
Candidates must have passed or be able to pass the PPL Skilled Trades Testing.
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent/GED
Minimum 3 years power plant experience or equivalent heavy industrial operations experience, or; completion of a formal coal-fired power plant apprenticeship/training program with a minimum of 6000 hours of on the job training.
Must have basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of steam plant systems and their interrelationships
Work well as a team member with operations and maintenance employees
Work and function well on rotating shifts
