The Vision Council is the global voice for the $35 billion vision care products and services industry in the United States. Founded in 1985, the Council's mission is to grow the industry and position members to be successful in a competitive marketplace through education, advocacy, consumer outreach, strategic relationship building and industry forums.
Today, The Vision Council is supported by more than 700 member companies representing the many diverse segments of a thriving and complex marketplace eyewear and accessories companies, lens manufacturers and distributors, companies who distribute manufacturing equipment and supplies to provider practices and labs, low-vision device businesses, optical labs, and non-prescription sunglass and over-the-counter reading glass manufacturers/distributors. The Vision Council serves these members through a variety of services including:
Promotion of a healthy, growing marketplace through its sponsorship of tradeshows, leadership conferences, and research.
Advocacy on such issues as health insurance reform, the regulation of medical devices, the distribution of optical products.
Serving as a resource to the public seeking information about eyewear trends, advances in technology, and advice from eyewear experts.
The Vision Council operates an $11 million annual operating budget and employs 30 staff and consultants. The headquarters is located in Alexandria, Virginia.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Vision Council's Board of Directors is seeking a highly qualified professional to lead the organization upon the retirement of its chief executive officer, Ed Greene. The new executive must be capable of leading the vision care industry and will be responsible for overseeing the following key initiatives:
Promote the growth of the eyewear/eye care industry in order to support a healthy, growing marketplace for member companies and affiliated partners.
Serve as the international voice of the supply side of the optical industry to include representing The Vision Council at forums, meetings, events, and conferences with legislators, regulators, the industry, suppliers, the media, and the public.
Maintain contacts with and establish strong working relationships with other allied organizations serving the industry, partners, leaders, and affiliates in order to effectively develop solutions that solve broader industry challenges.
Set the organization?s direction with Board support on issues impacting the ability of the Council to fulfill on its mission; i.e., evaluation of potential alliances and/or acquisitions and investments, diversification of revenue sources, the balancing of member needs, understanding of economic and technological realities affecting the industry, and the definition of consumer demands, trends, and choices.
Provideleadership and effective management support to the Council?s staff leadership by promoting/soliciting regular and ongoing staff input and feedback on program operations for the purpose of continuous improvement and development of the organization.
On an ongoing basis, The Vision Council?s President/CEO will:
Lead the development of the organization?s plans and programs as a strategic partner with the Board including evaluating and advising on the introduction of new programs/strategies and advising the Board regularly on the condition and operation of the Council especially developments affecting the Council?s ability to fulfill its mission.
Implement and oversee plans, programs, and initiatives as decided by the Board, including the development of long-and short-term goals that will enhance the organization?s effectiveness.
Enhance/develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of The Vision Council.
Evaluate organizational structure regularly for the purpose of continually improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the staff team as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth opportunities.
Work closely with the Board of Directors and Chief Financial Officer to maintain stewardship and accountability for financial and capital resources including establishing the annual budget and accurately aligning expenditures so that resources are appropriately deployed.

Qualifications
The next executive of The Vision Council is a professional who understands the complex nature of the vision care industry in the United States. He or she has an established reputation either as an industry or association executive, preferably with experience in the vision or health care fields. This position is based out of The Vision Council headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia; however, the President/CEO is expected to be willing and able to travel extensively domestically and internationally 40-50% of the time.
Specifically, the Board of The Vision Council is seeking a professional with:
A Bachelor's degree, preferably a graduate degree.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare/present effective and persuasive speeches to Board members, partners/affiliates, members of Congress, government officials, member companies, staff, and other stakeholders.
Experience in leadership/management of a division, business or association, including the ability to set a direction, build consensus, prepare a strong budget and strategic plan, achieve project and organizational goals, and report results on a quarterly basis; international experience a plus.
Demonstrable management experience in guiding a highly successful work force in meeting their individual and organizational goals, including strong interpersonal skills and discretion.
Strong technical acumen, including familiarity with association and financial management systems as well as productivity-enhancing desktop tools.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
