Schneider Electric seeks a highly qualified and motivated Manager of Safety, Health and Environmental, who has business savvy and strong leadership skills.
This position requires a candidate who can effectively 1) design and deliver a professional and comprehensive annual safety plan; 2) promote a positive safety culture; 3) coordinate work of existing in-house safety, health and environmental programs; and 4) maintain good working relationships with Schneider Electric employees and contractors. The successful candidate will be strategic, but practical and hands-on in his/her approach.
Through effective leadership and communication at all levels of the organization, this individual will have the proven ability to partner effectively with operating and support functions, building and developing a strong commitment to, as well as strong support for, safety, health and environmental throughout their location and/or functions.
The Manager of Safety, Health and Environmental will be primarily responsible for directing and assuring complete observance to Schneider Electric policies and procedures; corporate initiatives; and local, state and federal safety criteria. In addition, the incumbent will direct and oversee all safety, health and environmental activities as dictated by corporate policy and the local, state/provincial and federal standards and guidelines with specific emphasis on manufacturing and logistics activities. Additional responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
Develop protocols for all safety, health and environmental programs and systems performed at assigned Schneider Electric operation to ensure a safe and clean work environment for employees and contractors.
Cultivate a culture where Schneider Electric personnel recognize, report and take appropriate actions to correct issues that do not meet company safety and environmental guidelines and work practices.
Implement training programs and systems to ensure employees are properly trained and have an understanding of a safe and healthy working environment across all phases of the location operations and activities.
Implement training programs and systems to make sure employees understand and comply with health and environmental rules and procedures and recognize/report hazards that could harm any party working at or visiting the location.
Investigate and track accidents and establish methods to correct and eliminate unsafe practices and conditions. Partner with managers to monitor and ensure follow-up on safety, health and environmental action plans and communications with supervisory employees.
Maintain a network of safety, health and medical experts for advice and consultation on occupational safety, health and environmental matters.
Represent Operations interest in the management of the Road to Recovery Process designed to support the Human Resources Workers Compensation program.
Support the corporate on-boarding process by which new contractors can demonstrate their safety training methodologies and offer full disclosure of their safety records.
Serve as liaison with local, state and federal regulatory agencies. Represent Schneider Electric during inspections by government agencies.
Audit safety, health and environmental activities. Report and track results and follow-up on actions designed to correct and/or improve conditions and comply with regulations.
Implement systems to accurately maintain safety, health and environmental records to ensure data is available for reference, analysis and reporting. Report data to Schneider Electric corporate management and implement/monitor corrective actions where necessary.
Properly coordinate with Human Resources Department all matters where HR policies and procedures relate to the safety and health of employees including: benefits, disciplinary actions, drug tests, employee relations, employment screenings and work restrictions.
Direct all environmental permitting activities.
Prepare and file all necessary environmental reports.
Negotiate in concert with the corporate office all enforcement actions, notices of violation, informal settlement agreements, administrative orders and permit agreements with local, state and federal governmental environmental agencies.
Identify, develop and implement economically feasible solutions to safety, health and environmental issues/problems for the operations.
Coordinate loss control programs, risk engineering and fire protection planning with the company's insurance providers.
Assess the impact of safety, health and environmental laws and regulations as they affect the operation.
Track new regulations as they develop. Formulate and implement policies, procedures and programs for compliance.
As requested, support the Corporate Director of Environmental Management in due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures, site expansions and/or redevelopments.
As requested conduct environmental site assessments with environmental engineering consultants (Phases I, II).
Advise management on the compliance status, costs and technical improvements needed to achieve compliance.
As requested, support the Corporate Director of Real Estate in negotiating satisfactory environmental protections and terms in real estate transactions/purchases.
As requested, support the activities of outside and in-house legal counsel representing the company to ensure adequate legal advice is provided to the company regarding safety, health and environmental matters.
B.S. degree in safety, environmental or engineering with minimum 5 years experience.
Demonstrated safety leadership position, managing a safety and environmental program for medium to heavy industry.
Professional Safety Certification (CSP), CSHM and/or CHMM preferred.
Proven working knowledge of applicable regulations including: Federal/provincial regulations; ANSI, CSA, Electrical and NFPA Standards; Accident Investigation Procedures; CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
Proven experience working in a manufacturing environment.
