The employee in this position serves as a full-time, Term Biological Science Technician (Fish) for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 6, Jackson National Fish Hatchery, located in Jackson, Wyoming.
This is a Term appointment, not-to-exceed 13 months, which can be extended for a total appointment of 4 years.

Care for eggs, fry, and fish throughout the rearing and distribution cycle.
Collect, measure, and record biological information such as species, size, weight, sex, age, percentage mortalities, etc.
Assist with rearing, spawning and propagation activities of adult broodstock according to established procedures.
Monitor fish health and administer preventive and curative disease treatments.
Perform general construction and maintenance tasks unique to a hatchery, such as plumb hatchery tanks and egg incubation using PVC, carpentry to repair crowding screens, painting in and around hatchery and houses, and mechanics for minor repair of equipment.
Prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, and climbing is required, as well as lifting, carrying and setting up equipment. Various items such as feed bags, buckets and fish nets weighing up 50 pounds are lifted frequently. The work is performed in and around running water both indoors and outdoors. The work requires regular exposure to moderate risks and discomfort, including adverse weather conditions, temperature changes, dusty and noisy environments, as well as slippery, wet, and uneven surfaces. A variety of protective safety gear is required. The employee will be required to work occasional weekends and holidays.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: GS-05: One year of progressively responsible experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-04 grade level is qualifying for GS-05) that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience at this level includes all of the following: caring for eggs, fry and fish throughout the rearing and distribution cycle; cleaning and maintaining fish tanks and raceways; assisting with spawning and care for broodstock; collecting information on fish for biological work that is performed in a controlled environment.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED
Experience: GS-05: Successful completion a full 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor''s degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to fisheries.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for the GS-05 grade level, which when combined meets 100% of the qualification requirements.
If substituting education for the Specialized Experience requirement, you MUST submit school transcripts. Official or unofficial (photocopied) transcripts will be accepted.
