Summary
The Director, Investment and Retirement Services operates as both a manager and individual contributor. As a manager, this position supervises and directs the NRECA Personal Investment and Retirement Consulting (PIRC) team of 11 Investment and Retirement Planners and the Manager, Investment and Retirement Services in their day-to-day responsibilities of providing information and financial guidance to participants. As an individual contributor, responsibilities of this position include: (1) providing investment guidance under PIRC and creating and conducting both standard and customized financial seminars, and (2) working collaboratively with other NRECA divisions to develop and implement strategic initiatives designed to increase awareness and utilization of PIRC services and improve asset retention.
Purpose and Mission
Responsible for directing and managing the Personal Investment and Retirement Consulting (PIRC) Team, which provides guidance, assistance and technical expertise on all aspects of financial services as they relate to NRECA operations, policies, plans, products and programs.
Review and approve all PIRC presentations to ensure that they are well organized, accurate and consistent with other NRECA communications and initiatives. Keep abreast of level and quality of competitive financial services products available to the membership. Identify departmental and member financial services program needs and recommend developmental priorities and program revisions.
In conjunction with Manager, Investment and Retirement Services and other designees, review and approve all written retirement plans for technical accuracy, quality control, and suitability of guidance.
Work collaboratively with the compliance department to establish procedures and monitor activities to ensure adherence to regulatory and organizational compliance policies.
Utilize knowledge and experience to enhance the PIRC group's ability to fulfill its mission, formally train staff, and resolve intra-group professional differences.
As needed, conduct seminars, respond to participant inquiries, prepare and deliver written retirement plans, and one-on-one consultations through the PIRC program.
Work collaboratively with NRECA divisions, including Communications and Marketing, to support organization-wide initiatives, and develop strategies to increase the retention of assets in the 401(k) Pension Plan and RS Plan.
Provide guidance, assistance and professional technical expertise on all aspects of financial services as they relate to operations, policies, plans, products and programs to the PIRC Team, Field Staff, members, and other NRECA staff.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor''s degree
10 or more years of experience in the financial services industry with at least 5years experience consulting individuals on personal financial planning issues.
Ability to effectively manage a team of professionals
CFP designation preferred, or alternatively possess the ChFC or CFA designation with the ability to obtain the Series 65 license within 6 months.
Comprehensive knowledge on a wide range of financial planning and pension topics, including retirement/investment planning, education funding, personal portfolio management, securities, life insurance/annuities, tax laws and estate planning issues, Social Security and Medicare
Comprehensive knowledge of current pension industry practices and future trends.
